2014 Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2014 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament took place between Friday, March 7 and Monday, March 10 in Asheville, North Carolina, at the U.S. Cellular Center. The entire tournament was streamed on ESPN3, with the Southern Conference Championship Game televised by ESPN2. The champion received an automatic bid into the 2014 NCAA tournament. It was the last Southern Conference tournament for four teams that will officially leave the conference on July 1, 2014. Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, which are upgrading their football programs to the top-level Division I FBS, will join the FBS Sun Belt Conference. Davidson will become a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Elon will join the Colonial Athletic Association. Despite all of these departures, the championship game was contested between two teams who will remain in the Southern Conference. The 2013–14 Elon Phoenix men's basketball team represented Elon University during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. De'Mon Brooks (born May 28, 1992) is an American basketball player who plays for Levanga Hokkaido of the Japanese B.League. He completed his college career at Davidson College after the 2013–14 season. In the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, he was named Southern Conference player of the year and an All-American by the Associated Press. High school career Brooks, a 6'7" forward born in the U. S. state of Georgia, played high school basketball at Hopewell High School in Huntersville, North Carolina. The 2013–14 The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team represented The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in the 2013–14 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bulldogs, led by second year head coach Bennie Seltzer, played their home games at the Pete Hanna Center and were members of the Southern Conference.
