Elections were held in Oxford County, Ontario on October 27, 2014 in conjunction with municipal elections across the province. Oxford County is a regional municipality in the Canadian province of Ontario. Highway 401 runs east–west through the centre of the county, creating an urban industrial corridor with more than half the county's population, spanning 25 km between the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Toyota auto assembly plant in Woodstock and the CAMI Automotive, CAMI General Motors auto assembly plant in Ingersoll. 2014 Ontario Municipal Elections
The 2014 municipal elections in Ontario were held on October 27, 2014. Voters in the province of Ontario elected mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the province's municipalities. Electoral period Submissions for candidate nominations were first accepted on 1 January 2014, at which time the campaign period began. The last day for acceptance of nominations or candidacy withdrawal was 12 September 2014. From 1978 until 2006 the second Monday of November was the fixed date. Notwithstanding advance polling arrangements, municipal elections will be held on the fourth Monday of October, that is 27 October 2014. The elected representatives will begin their council terms on 1 December 2014. Officials will serve a four-year term excepting death or resignation. Blandford-Blenheim
Blandford-Blenheim is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Oxford County. The township had a population of 7,359 in the Canada 2011 Census. Its government consists of a mayor and four councillors. There are no geographic ward divisions for municipal elections; candidates for councillor campaign in the entire township and the four candidates who receive the most votes are declared elected. The township was amalgamated in 1975 from two historic county townships, Blandford and Blenheim. East Zorra-Tavistock is a township in southwestern Ontario, Canada, formed on 1 January 1975 through the amalgamation of the Township of East Zorra and the Village of Tavistock. It is part of Oxford County. The township had a population of 7,129 in the Canada 2016 Census. Ingersoll, Ontario
Ingersoll is a town in Oxford County on the Thames River in southwestern Ontario, Canada. The nearest cities are Woodstock to the east and London to the west. Ingersoll is situated north of and along Highway 401. Oxford County Road 119 (formerly Ontario Highway 19) runs north diagonally through the town. A Canadian National rail line bisects the town east to west through its centre. Passenger service from the Ingersoll train station is provided to other stops in Southwestern Ontario by Via Rail. To the south is a CPR line, with spurs into local industries, which provides freight service to points in the region. The local high school is Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute. The Township of Norwich is a municipality located in Oxford County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. At the centre of the Township of Norwich is the Town of Norwich. The preferred pronunciation of the town name is , which differs from the pronunciation used for the city of Norwich, England. The origin of Norwich, Ontario, is more likely Norwich in upper New York State, the area from which the pioneering families emigrated in the early 19th century, where the community was known as Norwichville. South-West Oxford
South-West Oxford is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within Oxford County. The township had a population of 7,664 in the 2016 Canadian census. A predominantly rural municipality, South-West Oxford was formed in 1975 through the amalgamation of Dereham and West Oxford townships and the village of Beachville. Governance The township council consists of the mayor and six councillors. The mayor is elected by a township-wide vote, while councillors are elected by a vote of residents in their respective ward. Tillsonburg
Tillsonburg is a town in Oxford County, Ontario, Canada with a population of 18,615 located about 50 kilometres southeast of London, on Highway 3 at the junction of Highway 19. History Prior to European settlement, the present site of Tillsonburg was home to Indigenous tribes. The Tillsonburg Village Site, a 14th century Iroquoian village, was excavated in 2001 and 2008, in the northwest corner of the town, and contained 15 longhouses. The area was settled in 1825 by George Tillson and other immigrants from Enfield, Massachusetts. A forge and sawmill were erected and roads built which led to the establishment of this small community, originally called Dereham Forge. The settlement was on the Big Otter Creek. Patrick Anthony "Pat" Sobeski (25 July 1951 – 17 March 2016) was a Canadian politician, who has served as a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1993, and as mayor of Woodstock from 2010 to 2014. Zorra is a township in Oxford County, situated in south-western Ontario, Canada. A predominantly rural municipality, Zorra was formed in 1975 through the amalgamation of East Nissouri, West Zorra and North Oxford townships.
