2014 New Zealand Warriors Season
The 2014 New Zealand Warriors season was the 20th in the club's history. Coached by Matthew Elliott until he was replaced by Andrew McFadden in Round 6, and captained by Simon Mannering, the Warriors competed in the National Rugby League's 2014 Telstra Premiership. They finished the regular season 9th out of 16 teams, failing to make the finals for the third consecutive year. In the pre-season the Warriors also had competed in the inaugural NRL Auckland Nines tournament. Andrew McFadden
Andrew McFadden (born 20 January 1978) is an Australian rugby league football coach and former player. He is an assistant coach at the Canberra Raiders in the NRL. Early life Born in Canberra, Australia. McFadden was educated at Hawker College, Canberra, where he represented 1995 Australian Schoolboys. Playing career McFadden played for the Canberra Raiders from 1997 to 2001, where he formed the "Mac-Attack" with Mark McLinden. He then played for the Parramatta Eels in 2002 and finally the Melbourne Storm from 2003 to 2004 before retiring. Coaching career McFadden returned to the Canberra Raiders in 2005, becoming their Jersey Flegg coach before leading the NSWRL Premier League team in 2006. David Fusitu'a (born 16 October 1994) is a professional rugby league footballer who plays as a and for Leeds Rhinos in Super League and for both Tonga national rugby league team, Tonga and New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand at international level. Ben Andrew Matulino (born 3 January 1989) is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s as a or . He played for the New Zealand Warriors and the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League, NRL, and New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand at international level. Agnatius Paasi (born 30 November 1991) is a Tongan professional rugby league footballer who plays as a for St Helens in the Betfred Super League and Tonga at international level. He previously played for the New Zealand Warriors in two separate spells, and also the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL. Background Paasi was born in Lapaha, Tonga, and moved to Auckland, New Zealand when he was three years old. Paasi played his junior football for Mangere East Hawks. Pacific Rugby League International
The Pacific Rugby League International is a rugby league test match that has been played between two Pacific Island nations during the National Rugby League's annual representative weekend since 2013. The fixture was held at Penrith Stadium for the 2013 and 2014 test matches. In 2015, two fixtures were held; Samoa and Tonga competed for the Polynesian Cup while Fiji and Papua New Guinea competed for the Melanesian Cup at Cbus Super Stadium. In 2016 the fixtures returned to New South Wales and were held at Parramatta's Pirtek Stadium. In August 2015, the NRL announced a new $925 million (Australian) TV deal. As part of the deal it was announced that the Pacific test matches would continue to be televised until at least 2022 and will be played on the Sunday before game 2 of the State of Origin series. 2014 ANZAC Test
The 2014 Anzac Test was a rugby league test match played between Australia and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on 2 May 2014. It was the 15th Anzac Test played between the two nations since the first was played under the Super League banner in 1997. It was also the first Test match played in Sydney since the 2010 Four Nations tournament. A Women's All Stars Match which is the Women's rugby league version of the game was played as the main curtain raiser for the Test, which was won 24-0 by the Women's All Stars.
