2014 London Marathon
The 2014 London Marathon was the 34th running of the annual marathon race in London, England, which took place on Sunday, 13 April. The men's elite race was won by Kenyan Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich and the women's race was won by Kenyan Edna Kiplagat. The men's wheelchair race was won by Switzerland's Marcel Hug and the women's wheelchair race was won by American Tatyana McFadden. Kipsang and McFadden set course records. Around 169,682 people applied to enter the race: 49,872 had their applications accepted and 36,337 started the race. A total of 35,817 runners, 22,571 men and 13,246 women, finished the race. In the under-17 Mini Marathon, the 3-mile able-bodied and wheelchair events were won by Zak Miller (14:27), Lydia Turner (16:05), Nathan Maguire (12:24) and Lauren Knowles (14:23). Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich
Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich (born 15 March 1982) is a Kenyan professional athlete who specialises in long-distance running, competing in events ranging from 10 km to the marathon. He was the bronze medallist in the marathon at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is the former world record holder in the marathon with a time of 2:03:23, which he set at the 2013 Berlin Marathon. He has run under 2 hours 4 minutes for the marathon on four occasions. Kipsang is a double winner of the Frankfurt Marathon (2010 and 2011) and has also won the London Marathon twice (2012 and 2014), New York Marathon (2014), and Tokyo Marathon (2017). His best time over the half marathon distance is 58:59. Florence Kiplagat
Florence Jebet Kiplagat (born 27 February, 1987) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner. She is a two-time world champion, having won at the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and the 2010 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. She was the world record holder for the women's half marathon with a time of 1:05:09 hours until it was broken by Peres Jepchirchir on 10 February 2017 at the RAK Half Marathon. She has also represented Kenya on the track, having won the silver medal over 5000 m at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics. She competed in the 10,000 m at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics and was the Kenyan record holder in the event with her best of 30:11.53 minutes until it was broken by Vivian Cheruiyot on 12 August 2016 at the Rio Olympic Games.
