2014 Illinois Senate Election
The Illinois State Senate Election of 2014 determined, along with 40 senators not up for re-election, the membership of the 99th Illinois General Assembly#Senate, 99th Illinois State Senate. The Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party retained its majority, losing one seat with defeat of Mike Jacobs (Illinois politician), Mike Jacobs of East Moline by Neil Anderson (Illinois politician), Neil Anderson. Despite winning a majority of the votes cast in this election, the Republican Party (United States), Republicans remained in the minority, even within the Class of Senators elected this year. There was no possibility of control of the chamber changing hands. Each party only ran 13 candidates, and for control of the Senate to have passed to the Republican Party, it would have to have won eighteen seats of the 19 elected in this election. Linda Holmes (born March 16, 1959) is a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 42nd District since January 2007. The 42nd district includes all or parts of Aurora, Boulder Hill, Montgomery, Naperville, North Aurora and Oswego. Prior to her service in the Illinois Senate, she served on the Kane County Board. Don Harmon
Don Harmon (born November 26, 1966) is an American attorney serving as a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 39th District since 2003. His district includes Chicago's Austin neighborhood and the suburbs of Oak Park, Addison, Bensenville, Elmwood Park, Franklin Park, Melrose Park, Northlake, River Grove, Rosemont, Schiller Park, and Stone Park. Karen McConnaughay (born March 1, 1957) is an Illinois politician from Kane County. A Republican, she was a member of the Illinois Senate from the 33rd district from 2013 until her resignation in 2018. The 33rd district includes all or parts of Geneva, St. Charles, West Dundee, Hampshire, Huntley, Carpentersville, Lake in the Hills and Algonquin. Terry Link (born March 20, 1947) is an American politician who represented the 30th district in the Illinois Senate from 1997 until his resignation in 2020. The 30th district includes all or part of the municipalities of Beach Park, Buffalo Grove, Green Oaks, Lincolnshire, Mundelein, North Chicago, Riverwoods, Wheeling, Vernon Hills and Waukegan. Chris Nybo (born April 30, 1977) is an American attorney and politician who is a former Republican member of the Illinois Senate. He represented the 24th District.
