Santander, Spain
Santander () is the capital of the autonomous community and historical region of Cantabria situated on the north coast of Spain. It is a port city located east of Gijón and west of Bilbao with a population of 172,000 (2017). It is believed to have been a port since ancient times, due to its favorable location, and is documented as far back as the 11th century. Much of the medieval city was lost in the Great Fire of 1941. Today, its remaining old town, beach and other attractions are popular with tourists and other visitors and its economy is mainly service based. The port is still very active and a regular ferry service operates to the United Kingdom. Fish and seafood dominate the local cuisine. Santander notably houses the headquarters of multinational bank Banco Santander, which was founded there. Isabel Marques Swan (born November 18, 1983) is a Brazilian sailor. She won a bronze medal in Sailing at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 470 class, 470 class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Niterói, she started sailing at the age of 8, influenced by her father, with whom she would compete in the 1998 Tornado World Championship, and her aunt and godmother Cláudia Swan, who was the first Brazilian female sailor in the Olympics, in 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992. In 2004, Fernanda Oliveira (sailor), Fernanda Oliveira, who had just competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, invited Swan to sail with her in the 470 class, a partnership that led to Brazil's first female medal in sailing. Eilidh Jane McIntyre (born 4 June 1994) is a British sailor, who won the gold medal alongside Hannah Mills in the 470 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the 2019 470 World Championships, and came second at the 2017 470 World Championships. She finished third at the 2015 470 European Championships, and second at the 2019 and 2021 events, as well as having won multiple ISAF Sailing World Cup medals. Career McIntyre joined the British Sailing Team at the age of 15. In 2013, McIntyre and Sophie Weguelin won the Kiel Week 470 event. In 2014, the pair won the US Sailing's Miami Olympic Classes Regatta. McIntyre won multiple medals at the 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup.
