Long Jump
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". This event has a history in the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympic event for men since the first Olympics in 1896 and for women since 1948. Rules At the elite level, competitors run down a runway (usually coated with the same rubberized surface as running tracks, crumb rubber or vulcanized rubber, known generally as an all-weather track) and jump as far as they can from a wooden or synthetic board, 20 centimetres or 8 inches wide, that is built flush with the runway, into a pit filled with soft damp sand. Mariusz Sobczak (born 8 February 1982) is a Paralympic athlete from Poland. He has cerebral palsy and competes in T36 sprint and long jump events. Athletic career Sobczak first represented Poland at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, entering the long jump and 100m sprint, but he failed to achieve a podium finish in either. Markus Rehm
Markus Rehm (born 22 August 1988) is a German Paralympic athlete. He began in sports at age 20 and became a long jump F44 world champion in 2011. His club is TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen and he is a medical specialist. Rehm is nicknamed "The Blade Jumper", as he is a long jumper with a blade-type leg prosthesis. Rehm's right leg was amputated below the knee after a wakeboarding accident. He uses a carbon-fibre bladed prosthesis, from which he jumps off. He holds the long jump world record in his category (8.62 m) set at the 2021 World Para Athletics European Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Personal life In 2003, at age 14, after a wakeboarding accident, Rehm had his right leg amputated below the knee. Athletics career 2012 London Paralympics Rehm won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London in the long jump F42/44 classification. Gocha Khugaev, (Russian: Гоча Олегович Хугаев) (born 16 July 1984) is a Russian athlete who competes in disability athletics in the F58 category. At the 2012 European Championships Khugaev set a European record whilst winning the 200 metres. He also won gold in the long jump in a combined F37/38 class, however an illegal wind reading of 2.4 m/s prevented him from setting a world record.
