2014 Hackney London Borough Council Election
Elections to Hackney London Borough Council took place on 22 May 2014, the same day as the 2014 United Kingdom local elections. Results Alteration of electoral wards of London Borough of Hackney The Hackney (Electoral Changes) Order 2013 reduces the size of the council and creates new electoral wards. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England began the process of changing the size of Hackney in 2012. The new warding arrangement for the elections in 2014 are as follows. Election for Mayor Under the Supplementary Vote system, if no candidate receives 50% of 1st choice votes, 2nd choice votes are added to the result for the top two 1st choice candidates. If a ballot gives a first and second preference to the top two candidates in either order, then their second preference is not counted, so that a second preference cannot count against a first. Jules Pipe
Julian Benjamin Pipe (born May 1965) is a British politician who currently serves as the Deputy Mayor of London for Planning, Regeneration and Skills. Pipe was the first directly elected mayor of the London Borough of Hackney between his election in October 2002 and his resignation in the summer of 2016. He worked as a journalist until taking on the full-time position as mayor. The council was short-listed for Council of the Year in 2010 in what was described as a "Meteoric rise". Pipe was elected as a Labour party councillor in Stoke Newington in 1996, later representing the King's Park Ward. He was re-elected at the May 2006 mayoral election, the May 2010 mayoral election and subsequently in the May 2014 mayoral election. He was Leader of Hackney Council from June 2001 to October 2002. Manor House, also known as Woodberry Down, is an area of North London in the northwest corner of the London Borough of Hackney. It lies immediately east of Finsbury Park, north of Stoke Newington, west of Stamford Hill and Seven Sisters, London, Seven Sisters, and south of Harringay. The area was originally known as Woodberry Down. However, the construction of the Seven Sisters Road and the consequent establishment of the Manor House Tavern gave rise to the alternative name ''Manor House Crossroads'' and with the arrival of the Manor House tube station, tube station in 1932, the area immediately around the tube station began to be known as Manor House.
