2014 F1600 Championship Series
The 2014 F1600 Championship Series season was the fourth season of the F1600 Championship Series. The season commenced on April 12 at Road Atlanta, and ended on October 12 at Watkins Glen International after 14 races held at 7 meetings. No fewer than eleven drivers won races during the season, but it was Norway's Ayla Ågren who won the title for Team Pelfrey. Ågren had trailed her team-mate Garth Rickards by nine points going into the final round, but her last-lap victory in the final race of the season; her third win of 2014 – passing Sam Chastain to do so – allowed her to take the championship title, ahead of Rickards by a total of thirteen points. Team Pelfrey swept the top three placings in the final championship standings, as Augie Lerch managed to surpass Jack Mitchell, Jr. by eleven points, again with results in the final race of the season. F1600 Championship Series
The F1600 Championship Series was created by the SCCA in 2011. The series is organized by Formula Race Promotions, the same organization which organizes the F2000 Championship Series, and sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing. It is a series whose champion is eligible for the Road to Indy Shootout provided the driver is of an eligible age, and has the necessary skills to operate such machine. The Series The class operates under the same rules as the SCCA Formula F. Therefore, many drivers from the local club racing scene make their appearance in the national series. 2011 Season The first year saw many club racers and well established constructors racing in the series. Most cars were Van Diemen, Piper or Swift. Cape Motorsports began a collaboration with the Australian constructor Spectrum. Spectrum had already many years of Formula Ford experience in Australia. Swift Engineering Inc. is an American spacecraft engineering firm that builds autonomous systems, helicopters, submarines, spacecraft, ground vehicles, robotics, and composite parts. Swift used to produce racing cars for open-wheel racing series, including Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic, the Champ Car World Series and Formula Nippon, having designed and fabricated over 500 race cars.
