2014 Calgary Stampeders Season
The 2014 Calgary Stampeders season was the 57th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 80th overall. The Stampeders finished first in the West Division for the second straight season for the first time since the 1996 season. The Stampeders also finished the season with a 15–3 record, tying a team record previously achieved during the 1995 season (and has since been surpassed in 2016 with a 15–2–1 record). With a win in Week 15 the Stampeders qualified for the playoffs for the 10th straight season. On November 30, 2014, the Stampeders won their seventh Grey Cup championship 20–16 over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place in Vancouver. Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Jon Gott
Jon Gott (born October 2, 1985) is a former Canadian football offensive lineman. He was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the fifth round of the 2008 CFL Draft. He played five seasons for the Stampeders before being traded to the RedBlacks for the rights to Marwan Hage and the first overall pick in the 2014 CFL Draft. In gridiron football, defensive backs (DBs), also called the secondary, are the players on the defensive side of the ball who play farthest back from the line of scrimmage. They are distinguished from the other two sets of defensive players, the defensive linemen who play directly on the line of scrimmage, and the linebackers, who play in the middle of the defense, between the defensive line and the defensive backs. Adam Thibault
Adam Thibault (born March 26, 1990) is a Canadian former professional football defensive back who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He won his first Grey Cup championship in his rookie year with the Calgary Stampeders in 2014 after winning three Vanier Cup championships with Laval. College career Thibault spent his collegiate career playing for the Laval Rouge et Or. He played wide receiver his first three seasons before becoming a defensive back during the 2013 season, a season in which the team went 8–0. He appeared in the Vanier Cup all four years on campus, winning three times in those four years. McGill Redmen Football
The McGill Redbirds football team represents McGill University in Canadian football in U Sports and is based in Montreal, Quebec. The program is one of the oldest in all of Canada, having begun organized competition in 1874. The team won its first collegiate championship in 1902 and also won in 1912, 1913, 1919, 1928, 1938 and 1960 prior to the inauguration of the Vanier Cup in 1965. McGill appeared in the Vanier Cup final in 1969, 1973 and 1987, with the Redmen finally winning the title in the 1987 game. McGill plays out of Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, where the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes also play. The program had long used the Redmen moniker until the name was dropped in May 2019 after nearly 80% of students voted to change the name in a 2018 referendum held by McGill's student union. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (; born February 11, 1991) is a Canadian football guard for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played university football and attended medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, before being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Duvernay-Tardif is only the fourth medical school graduate to play in the NFL. He was made a Knight of the National Order of Quebec in 2019 and enrolled at Harvard University to get a Master of Public Health degree the following year. Duvernay-Tardif opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic and returned to Canada to work in a care facility. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. The Concordia Stingers are the athletic teams that represent Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They compete with other schools in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, and more specifically in Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ; French for "Quebec Student Sports Network"). Quinn Smith (born September 19, 1991) is a former Canadian professional gridiron football offensive lineman. Prior to being drafted into the Canadian Football League (CFL), he played Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football for the Concordia Stingers.
