2014 CECAFA Nile Basin Cup
The 2014 CECAFA Nile Basin Cup was the inaugural edition of the CECAFA Nile Basin Cup, which is organised by CECAFA. It began on 23 May and concluded on 4 June, with Sudan as the first hosts of the tournament. Ugandan Super League club Victoria University beat A.F.C. Leopards in the final to clinch their first title and US$ 30,000 in prize money. A.F.C. Leopards took home US$20,000 for finishing second, while Sudanese side Al-Ahly Shendi beat Académie Tchité of Burundi in the third place play-off to take home US$10,000. Participants On 12 May 2014, the draw for clubs to participate in the tournament was released. The tournament was originally due to kick off on 22 May, but was pushed back a day. SC Victoria University
Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) is a Ugandan football club, based in Kampala. They play their home games at the Mandela National Stadium. History SCVU was formed on 19 August 2011, and played in the Uganda Big League, winning the play-off final 4-0 against Aurum Roses to gain promotion to the Uganda Premier League. First Head Coach in history of SC Victoria University was Serbian tactician Ivan Zoric. Following the promotion of Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) to the Uganda Super League in 2012, SCVU finished fifth in the 2012-13 season and won its first major trophy, the Uganda Cup in 2013. Al-Merrikh SC
Al-Merrikh Sporting Club ( ar, نادي المريخ الرياضي) is a Sudanese football club based in Omdurman. Their home stadium is Al-Merrikh Stadium, which is locally known as The Red Castle. Founded in 1908, Al-Merrikh is one of the oldest football clubs in Africa, and have won the Sudan Premier League 16 times and Sudan Cup 14 times. The club share a fierce rivalry with Al-Hilal, the games between them regularly selling out, as well as being the only other realistic challenger to the league crown. They won the Om-al-Dahab championship in 1965 and have been the only team to have ever won this one time event. A third place match, game for third place, bronze medal game or consolation game is a single match that is included in many sporting knockout tournaments to decide which competitor or team will be credited with finishing third and fourth.
