Tom Tait (born October 18, 1958) is an American politician and businessman who was the 45th mayor of Anaheim, California from 2010 to 2018. He previously served on the Anaheim City Council beginning in 1995 to 2004 and served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2002 to 2003. Tait was born in California and attended the University of Wyoming where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to earn a master's degree in Business Administration from Vanderbilt University with a Finance concentration, followed by a receiving a Juris Doctor degree from Vanderbilt in 1985. 2014 California Elections
In California state elections, 2014 was the first year in which the top statewide offices were elected under the nonpartisan blanket primary, pursuant to Proposition 14, which passed with 53% voter approval in June 2010. Under this system, which first went into effect during the 2012 election year, all candidates will appear on the same ballot, regardless of party. In the primary, voters may vote for any candidate, regardless of their party affiliation. The top two finishers, regardless of party, then advance to face each other in the general election in November. The 2014 elections for statewide offices also coincided with those for all of California's seats to the House of Representatives, all of the seats of the State Assembly, all even-numbered seats of the State Senate, and statewide ballot propositions.
