2014 Alberta Municipal Censuses
Alberta has provincial legislation allowing its municipalities to conduct municipal censuses between April 1 and June 30 inclusive. Municipalities choose to conduct their own censuses for multiple reasons such as to better inform municipal service planning and provision, to capitalize on per capita based grant funding from higher levels of government, or to simply update their populations since the last federal census. Alberta had 357 municipalities between April 1 and June 30, 2014, down from 358 as at June 30, 2013, which marked the closure of the 2014 legislated municipal census period. At least 39 of these municipalities () conducted a municipal census in 2014. Alberta Municipal Affairs recognized those conducted by 37 of these municipalities. By municipal status, it recognized those conducted by 13 of Alberta's 17 cities, 18 of 108 towns, 3 of 93 villages, 1 of 51 summer villages and 2 of 64 municipal districts. Drayton Valley
Drayton Valley is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located on Highway 22 (Cowboy Trail), approximately southwest of Edmonton. It is surrounded by Brazeau County, known for its vast oil fields. The town is located between the North Saskatchewan River and the Pembina River. The town was named after Drayton, Hampshire, the birthplace of the wife of one of the Alberta town's postmasters. History Prior to the 1953 oil boom, the community of Drayton Valley was sparsely populated. The main economic activities were farming and logging. Drayton Valley was incorporated as a village in 1956 and officially became a town in 1957. In 1955 a ferry was built to cross the North Saskatchewan River. Bentley, Alberta
Bentley is a town in central, Alberta, Canada within Lacombe County. It is located on Highway 12, approximately northwest of Red Deer. History The first settlers came from the U.S. in 1888-1890 and either walked or drove oxen from Lacombe, which was the closest railroad station at that time. Post office opened in 1901. The first church was built in 1890 by the Methodists, and a schoolhouse was built in 1903. Bentley was incorporated as a village on March 17, 1915. A disastrous fire destroyed all buildings on the south side of the community in 1916. The centre roadway was made wide and new buildings could not be constructed inside that area. In 1930, a centre boulevard was constructed for fire protection and street lights installed. Bentley was incorporated as a town on January 1, 2001. Barons is a village in southern Alberta, Canada in a region referred to as Palliser's Triangle. It is located north of Lethbridge along Alberta Highway 23, Highway 23. Raymond is a town in southern Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by the County of Warner No. 5. It is south of Lethbridge at the junction of Highway 52 and Highway 845. Morinville
Morinville is a town in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is approximately north of Edmonton along Highway 2. History Morinville was settled by Jean-Baptiste Morin, a priest and missionary of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, who brought many French settlers in the late 1800s, followed by several German pioneers. The monument located in St. Jean Baptiste Park lists the many names of pioneers and settlers to Morinville. Once situated on the street at 100 Avenue and 100 Street, the monument was moved to its present location in 2000, as it was a safety hazard and very difficult to enjoy with all the traffic at the intersection. Beaumont ( ) is a city in Leduc County within the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada.
