2013–14 DEL2 Season
The 2013–14 DEL2 season was the first season of operation for the DEL2 (also known as DEL II). Replacing the 2nd Bundesliga, this league represents the second-level of ice hockey in Germany, below the ''Deutsche Eishockey Liga'' (DEL). The league operated with 12 teams during the 2013–14 season. The inaugural champions were the Fischtown Pinguins. Regular season In its inaugural season the league competed with 12 clubs which was extended to 14 in the following season. Playoffs Championship The championship play-offs: Relegation In the relegation round the four bottom placed clubs played a best-of-seven knock-out series first in which EC Bad Nauheim defeated Eispiraten Crimmitschau and Heilbronner Falken the ESV Kaufbeuren. Following this the two losers entered another round with the best four Oberliga clubs, playing a home-and-away round. DEL2
DEL2 (also known as DEL II) is the second tier ice hockey league in Germany, below the '' Deutsche Eishockey Liga'' (DEL) and ahead of the '' Oberliga''. Founded in 2013 to replace the defunct '' 2nd Bundesliga'', DEL2 is administered by ESBG, under licence from DEB. History The DEL2 league was founded on 2 May 2013 by Eishockeyliga Betriebsgesellschaft mbH. The foundation of the league was controversial as it was preceded by a long standing dispute between the operator of the second division, Eishockeyspielbetriebsgesellschaft mbH (ESBG), and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). In 2011, ESBG refused to sign a cooperation agreement between DEB and DEL citing unacceptable conditions. As a result, DEB withdrew their support of ESBG and promotion and relegation between the DEL and 2nd division was removed. EHC Freiburg
EHC Freiburg, is a professional ice hockey team based in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. They play in the DEL 2, the second-highest level of ice hockey in Germany. History The club was created as EHC Freiburg in 1984. In 2003, they became champion of the 2nd Bundesliga and earned the right to play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in 2003–04 season. The organization was spun off to ''Die wölfe Eishockeyveranstaltungs GmbH'' and was renamed Wölfe Freiburg, while the other teams of the club remained at EHC Freiburg e.V. Löwen Frankfurt
The Löwen Frankfurt are a professional ice hockey team based in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. They currently play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. The club is the successor of the Frankfurt Lions, formed in 1991, which experienced its greatest success in 2004 when it won the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. When the Lions folded in 2010 after having had their licence revoked by the DEL a new club was formed, the Löwen Frankfurt, which began play in the lower divisions of German ice hockey. The new club won promotion to the second-tier DEL2 in 2014, and to the DEL itself in 2022. The Löwen play in the ice rink on Ratsweg. This was opened in 1981 and was long considered one of the most modern halls of its kind in Germany. It consists of 7,000 spectator spots, of which approximately 3,500 are seated and 3,500 standing. EC Kassel Huskies
The EC Kassel Huskies are a professional ice hockey club based in Kassel, Hessen, Germany. The club currently competes in DEL2, the second level of ice hockey in Germany. The Huskies were founded in 1977 and have competed in the top five levels of the hockey in Germany since that time. Kassel's home barn is the Eissporthalle Kassel, which has a capacity of 6,100.
