Södermalm (borough)
Södermalm is a city district area (, often referred to as a ''borough'') in central Stockholm, Sweden. Södermalm borough has a population of around 110,000, making it the most populated borough of Stockholm. The urban development project of Hammarby Sjöstad is located in the Södermalm borough. Overview Södermalm was created 1 January 2007, through the merging of the boroughs of Maria-Gamla Stan and Katarina-Sofia. It covers the island of Södermalm and some neighboring districts. The two former boroughs made up the eastern and western half of the island of Södermalm. Maria-Gamla Stan was the result of a previous merging between the original borough with the same name, and the former borough of Hornstull, in 1999. Petrus Kastenman
Lars Petrus Ragnar Kastenman, né ''Kahlsson'' (15 August 1924 – 10 June 2013) was a Swedish Army officer and equestrian who won an individual gold medal in ''eventing'' at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. Early life Kastenman was born on 15 August 1924 in the cottage named Draget, close to Nynäs Castle in Bälinge socken, Södermanland, Sweden, the son of Johan Kahlsson and his wife Elin (née Johansson). His father was a tailor who fell out of a window and was forced to amputate both legs and who now lived out his days as a merchant; he ran a business in his own cottage. As a child, Kastenman used to sit and look out the kitchen window at how the horsemen drove with timber on the ice of Rundbosjön before they came into the cottage to drink coffee. After his father passed away, his mother remarried to the hunter at the castle. Princess Lilian, Duchess Of Halland
Princess Lilian of Sweden, Duchess of Halland (born Lillian May Davies, later Craig; 30 August 1915 – 10 March 2013), was a Welsh fashion model who became a member of the Swedish royal family through her 1976 marriage to Prince Bertil, Duke of Halland (1912–1997). As such, she was a paternal aunt-in-law of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and an aunt-in-law of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. Hasse Jeppson
Hans Olof "Hasse" Jeppson (10 May 1925 – 21 February 2013) was a Swedish professional footballer who played as a striker. He was known for his impressive goals to games ratio at several clubs, and represented Örgryte IS, Djurgårdens IF, Charlton Athletic, Atalanta, Napoli and Torino during a career that spanned between 1946 and 1957. A full international between 1949 and 1950, he won 12 caps and scored nine goals for the Sweden national team and helped them to a third-place finish at the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Club career Jeppson began his career with Djurgårdens IF, transferring to Charlton Athletic where he played 11 matches in 1951, before moving to Italy to join Atalanta (1951–1952). Jeppson was the second Swedish player to be transferred to an English team, after Dan Ekner at Portsmouth. He then moved to Napoli (1952–56) and Torino F.C. (1956–57) in the 1950s. Eric Gustaf Ericson (26 October 1918 – 16 February 2013) was a Swedish choral conductor and influential choral teacher. Life and career He graduated from the Royal College of Music (''Kungl. Musikhögskolan'') in Stockholm in 1943 and went on to complete his studies abroad, at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Switzerland, and in Germany, Great Britain, and the United States. Renowned for his innovative teaching methods and the wide-ranging nature of his repertoire, Ericson was the principal conductor of the Orphei Drängar choir at Uppsala University from 1951 until 1991, and choirmaster until 1982 of the Swedish Radio Choir which was established on his initiative in 1951. Also in 1951, he began his teaching career at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he became a legendary and inspirational figure, and he was appointed to the chair of choral conducting there in 1968.
