2013 Telus Cup
The 2013 Telus Cup was Canada's 35th annual national midget 'AAA' hockey championship, held April 22 – 28, 2013 at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The Red Deer Chiefs defeated the Ottawa Junior 67's in the gold medal game to win their second straight national title. The Rousseau Royal de Laval-Montréal won the bronze medal. This was Sault Ste. Marie's second time hosting the national championship – the 2003 Air Canada Cup was played at the old Sault Memorial Gardens. Essar Centre
The GFL Memorial Gardens, formerly the "Essar Centre", is a 4,928 seat sports and entertainment centre in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. It opened on September 29, 2006, replacing the now demolished Sault Memorial Gardens. The new building was constructed directly next door to the former Memorial Gardens and incorporated its most distinctive feature, the Memorial Tower, into its plans. The block surrounding the arena is called "Memorial Square." The Garden's primary tenant is the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. New Brunswick-PEI Major Midget Hockey League
The New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League is a Canadian midget 'AAA' ice hockey league operating in the provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The inter-branch league operates under the supervision of Hockey New Brunswick and Hockey PEI. History The league was created by Hockey New Brunswick and Hockey PEI in 2002 to provide a more competitive development league for both provinces. The new league replaced the existing major midget leagues in both provinces. Both branches continue to operate their respective minor midget leagues as feeder leagues for the major midget league. Upon its formation, it was decided that the league would have six teams – four from New Brunswick and two from PEI. BC Hockey Major Midget League
The BC Elite Hockey League - U18 AAA (formerly the BC Hockey Major Midget League), or BCEHL, is the highest level of provincial U18 ice hockey league in British Columbia, Canada. Governed by BC Hockey and inaugurated in 2004, the league consists of 10 teams. Players range from 15 to 17 years old. BCEHL is part of BC Hockeys' "High Proformance" program to develop the best midget-aged players around the province. The league champion goes on to compete with the top Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) team to represent the Pacific region at the annual Telus Cup, Canada's national midget championship. The Alberta Elite Hockey League or AEHL (formerly the Alberta Midget Hockey League) is the provincial U18 "AAA" ice hockey league for Alberta, Canada. The league consists of 17 teams split into the North and South Divisions. League champions go on to compete with the BC Elite Hockey League champions to represent the Pacific at the annual Telus Cup, Canada's national U18 championship. The Saskatchewan Male U18 'AAA' Hockey League (SMAAAHL), formerly the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League,) is a U-18 'AAA' ice hockey league, with teams based in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Kenora, Ontario
Kenora (), previously named Rat Portage (french: Portage-aux-Rats), is a city situated on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, close to the Manitoba boundary, and about east of Winnipeg by road. It is the seat of Kenora District. The history of the name extends beyond the time of white settlers arriving in the region. The name Rat Portage had its origin in the Ojibwa name Waszush Onigum, which roughly translated, means portage to the country of the muskrats. A shortened and somewhat corrupted version, Rat Portage, was adopted by the Hudson’s Bay Company in naming their post, then located on Old Fort Island on the Winnipeg River.
