Presidential elections were held in Tajikistan on 6 November 2013. Incumbent President Emomali Rahmon was re-elected with a reported 84% of the vote on a turnout of 86.6%. In power since 1992, Rahmon was seeking a new term in office, and was widely expected to be re-elected. Emomali Rahmon (; born Emomali Sharipovich Rahmonov, tg, Эмомалӣ Шарӣпович Раҳмонов, script=Latn, italic=no, Emomalī Sharīpovich Rahmonov; ; born 5 October 1952) has been the 3rd President of Tajikistan since 16 November 1994. The Democratic Party (russian: Демократическая партия Таджикистана; tg, Ҳизби демократии Тоҷикистон, translit=Hizbi Demokratii Tojikiston) is a political party in Tajikistan founded in August 1990 by Mahmadruzi Iskandarov. Along with the other Tajik opposition parties, it was banned from July 1993 to August 1999. Under the 30% quota provided by the Peace Agreement that concluded the Tajik Civil War, some party members were appointed to governmental and administrative posts.
