2013 Suffolk County Council Election
Elections to Suffolk County Council took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections. 75 councillors were elected from 63 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. The electoral divisions were the same as those used at the previous election in 2009. Labour and the Conservatives were the only parties with candidates standing in all sixty-three electoral divisions. All locally registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who were aged 18 or over on Thursday 2 May 2013 were entitled to vote in the local elections. Those who were temporarily away from their ordinary address (for example, away working, on holiday, in student accommodation or in hospital) were also entitled to vote in the local elections, although those who had moved abroad and registered as overseas electors cannot vote in the local elections. Suffolk County Council
Suffolk County Council is the administrative authority for the county of Suffolk, England. It is run by 75 elected county councillors representing 63 divisions. It is a member of the East of England Local Government Association. History Established in 1974 and initially based at East Suffolk County Hall, the Council relocated to Endeavour House in Ipswich in 2004. In September 2010, the council announced that it would seek to outsource a number of its services, in an attempt to cut its own budget by 30%. Carlford Division, Suffolk is an electoral division of Suffolk which returns one county councillor to Suffolk County Council. Robin Vickery, the Conservative County Councillor resigned on 8 June 2020 following over 600 complaints were made concerning racist posts he had shared on Facebook. Stephen Searle
In 2017, Stephen Anthony Searle, a UK Independence Party (UKIP) general election candidate and recent member of Suffolk County Council, murdered his wife and told police "I’ve been a very naughty boy". Searle fatally asphyxiated his wife, Anne Searle, after she caught him having an affair with the mother of his grandchild. He was convicted of her murder in July 2018, jailed for life and must serve 14 years.
