2013 Riga City Council Election
The 2013 Riga City Council election was held on June 1, 2013, to elect Riga City Council, the unicameralism, unicameral local legislature of the Riga, as part of 2013 Latvian municipal elections, municipal elections across the country. At stake were all 60 seats in the City Council. After 2009 elections Harmony created coalition with Christian-Democratic LPP/LC and Nils Ušakovs became Mayor of Riga. Ušakovs' popularity among Rigans had grown steadily, and 73% of the city's residents approved of Ušakovs' performance in December 2010. In 2011, LPP/LC party was dissolved and Social Democratic Party "Harmony", Harmony started ruling alone. In late 2012 Harmony united with political party Honor to serve Riga to participate in 2013 elections As a result of the election, Harmony and Honor to Serve Riga union received 39 of 60 seats and in June Nils Ušakovs was re-elected as mayor of Riga. 2017 Latvian Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held across Latvia on 3 June 2017. All 119 municipalities and republican cities of Latvia elected their city councils. In Riga the joint list of the Social Democratic Party "Harmony" and Honor to serve Riga won a majority. For the Native language! (russian: За родной язык!, lv, Par dzimto valodu!) was a political party in Latvia. The party's leader was Vladimir Linderman. History In 2009, Latvian national-bolsheviks established the political party "The 13 January Movement". In 2011 Linderman was co-founder of an NGO called Native Language and initiated constitutional referendum in Latvia. In 2011, the "13 January Movement" joined forces with Osipovs Party. On 16 July 2012, The Register of Enterprises officially registered the political party "For the Native Language!". In February 2016, a court decision to dissolve the party was upheld. Political positions For the Native Language! supports increased role for Russian language in education and public administration. United For Latvia
United for Latvia ( lv, Vienoti Latvijai) is a populist and economically liberal political party in Latvia. It was founded in 2011 in Rēzekne and in 2013 Ainārs Šlesers became party chairman. Šlesers has been dubbed one of the three "oligarchs" prominent in Latvian politics, and United for Latvia marks his return to electoral politics. He was previously leader of Latvia's First Party/Latvian Way and has served in several governments of Latvia including as Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Aigars Kalvītis and Minister of Transport in the second government of Ivars Godmanis, both of whom are party members. The Reform Party ( lv, Reformu partija), until April 2012 known as Zatlers' Reform Party ( lv, Zatlera Reformu partija, links=no, ZRP), was a centre-right political party in Latvia founded by former President Valdis Zatlers on 23 July 2011. It won 22 seats in the Saeima in the 2011 election. The Latvian Farmers' Union ( lv, Latvijas Zemnieku savienība, LZS) is an agrarian political party in Latvia. Initially formed in 1917 during the period of Latvian War of Independence, it was banned in 1934. It was re-established in 1990. The Latvian Green Party ( lv, Latvijas Zaļā partija, LZP) is a green political party in Latvia. It was founded in 1990.
