Alejandra Benítez Romero (born 7 July 1980) is a Venezuelan sabre fencer, who competed at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was minister of sports in 2013 Sports career Benítez was born in a popular parish Antímano Caracas district. She began fencing accidentally at the age of fifteen years old on the suggestion good reference of one of her aunts, who knew coach Hildemaro Sánchez at the Central University of Venezuela. The national Venezuelan team trained in the same fencing hall, which inspired her to work hard to join them. Dagmara "Daga" Wozniak ( pl, Woźniak; born July 1, 1988) is an American Sabre (fencing), saber fencing, fencer. Wozniak was named to the U.S. Olympic team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in women's saber competition as a substitute, and as a competitor at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. As of the summer of 2016, she was ranked as one of the top 10 saber fencers in the world. Early life and education Her parents are Gregory and Irena Wozniak and she has an older sister, Zuzanna. Anne-Elizabeth Stone
Anne-Elizabeth Stone, commonly known as Eliza Stone, (born December 31, 1990) is an American sabre fencer. Her results include an individual bronze medal at the 2018 World Fencing Championships and a team gold medal in the 2014 World Championships. Career Stone grew up fencing with her younger brother and sister in Chicago. She first took ballet lessons. She switched to fencing at the age of ten after her father saw a flier for a fencing club at a pizza parlor and thought it would be a good sport for his children. All three ended up fencing for Princeton University. Stone joined the US national team in the 2012–13 season, during which she took the silver medal in the Pan American Championships after being defeated in the final by two-time Olympic champion Mariel Zagunis. Mariel Leigh Zagunis (born March 3, 1985) is an American sabre fencer. She is a two-time Olympic champion in the individual sabre ( 2004 and 2008) and the first American to win a gold medal in Olympic fencing. She was Team USA flag bearer in the 2012 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations. She has two Olympic bronze team medals (in 2008 and 2016) and is a five-time Olympian (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020). Kelley Hurley (born April 4, 1988) is an American épée fencer. She won the bronze medal in the women's team épée event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. A standout at the University of Notre Dame, she was a 4-time All-American. She has qualified to represent the United States in fencing at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo in 2021. Coached by their father, Bob Hurley, Kelley and her younger sister Courtney have competed on World Teams together since Kelley was 17. Kelley qualified for her first Olympic Team in 2008 as the only women's épée fencer from the United States to do so. In 2012, Hurley qualified for her second team as a replacement athlete. Katharine (Kat) Holmes (born July 15, 1993) is an American fencer. She competed in the women's épée event at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. She was a world champion in the women’s epee team event (Wuxi, China 2018), which was the first World Championship medal won by an American women’s epee team, defeating Korea in overtime in the finals. She also anchored the United States women’s epee team to its first World Cup gold medal (Dubai 2018), defeating Russia in overtime in the finals. Margaret Lu (born March 21, 1994) is an American fencer. Lu has participated in the World Fencing Championships several times, winning a silver medal in 2017 and a gold medal in 2018, both in the team events.
