2013 Liberal Party Of Newfoundland And Labrador Leadership Election
The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election of 2013 was triggered by Kevin Aylward's announcement on October 26, 2011, that he would resign as leader following the party's result in the 2011 provincial election. It was announced on December 15, 2011, that Humber Valley MHA Dwight Ball would start serving as interim leader of the party on January 3, 2012. In May 2012, the party announced the leadership convention would take place between November 15–17, 2013. It was won by Dwight Ball, who had stepped down as interim leader in July 2013 to run. Kevin Aylward (born August 24, 1960) is a Canadians, Canadian businessman and former politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He has served as leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador from August 14, 2011 until January 3, 2012. Aylward was first elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 1985 Newfoundland general election, 1985 election and served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Clyde Kirby Wells, Clyde Wells, Brian Tobin, Beaton Tulk and Roger Grimes. Randy Edmunds (politician)
Randy Edmunds is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2011 provincial election. A member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, he represented the electoral district of Torngat Mountains until 2019. Personal life Edmunds is the son of William "Bill" Edmunds (1932-1983), co-founder of the Labrador Inuit Association (predecessor to Nunatsiavut) and Ruth Flowers (1940-2015), an advocate for women's issues in Labrador. Yvonne Jean Jones (born March 15, 1968) is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, who was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in a by-election on May 13, 2013. She represents the district of Labrador as a member of the Liberal Party caucus. On December 2, 2015, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs. Judy May Foote ( Crowley; born June 23, 1952) is a Canadian former politician, 14th and current lieutenant governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is the first woman to hold the position. Gerry Byrne, PC MHA (born September 27, 1966) is a Canadian politician who was a Liberal Member of Parliament from 1996 to 2015 representing Humber—St. Barbe—Baie Verte, Newfoundland and Labrador, and a cabinet minister in the government of Jean Chrétien. Since the 2015 provincial election, he has served as MHA for Corner Brook. The Isles of Notre Dame, formerly called Twillingate and Fogo, is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011 the district had 6,990 eligible voters. The district was abolished in 2015 and largely replaced by Lewisporte-Twillingate. Gerry Reid
Gerry Reid (born June 18, 1954) was a Canadian politician and the leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. He served as interim leader from 2005 to 2006, until Jim Bennett replaced him in February 2006. Reid was reelected as leader of the party on May 29, 2006, after Bennett resigned due to differences with the Liberal Party caucus. Prior to entering politics, Reid was a teacher and town councillor in Summerford. Reid represented the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in the House of Assembly from 1996 until his 2007 defeat. On October 9, 2007, in the general election, he led the party to its worst showing in the province's history with just 3 out of 48 potential seats. Burgeo-La Poile is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011, there are 7,527 eligible voters living within the district. The district was first created when Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949 as Burgeo and La Poile, and existed until 1975. It was recreated in 1995 following a reduction in the number of seats in the House of Assembly from 52 to 48, forming from the amalgamation of the former districts of La Poile and Burgeo-Bay D'Espoir. The district takes in the southwestern corner of Newfoundland, stretching from the town of Burgeo in the east to Cape Ray in the west. Its largest community, Port aux Basques, is the island's link to continental North America through the Marine Atlantic ferry service. Tom Osborne (born 1964) is a politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He represents the district of Waterford Valley in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly.
