2013 Honduran General Election
General elections were held in Honduras on 24 November 2013. Voters went to the polls to elect a new President, the 128 members of the National Congress, 298 Mayors and vice-mayors and their respective councilors and 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament. The closely watched presidential election saw a field of eight candidates vying to succeed outgoing President Porfirio Lobo Sosa, who is not eligible to run for re-election. Salvador Nasralla, a sports journalist and television personality, and Xiomara Castro, the wife of the deposed president Mel Zelaya, both candidates from newly formed political parties (the Anti-Corruption Party and Libre, respectively) were leading in most of the early polls. Juan Orlando Hernández
Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado (; born 28 October 1968), also known as JOH, is a Honduran lawyer and politician who served as President of Honduras from 2014 to 2022. A member of the National Party, Hernández previously served as the president of the National Congress of Honduras between January 2010 and June 2013, when he was given permission by the Congress to absent himself from all responsibilities in the Congress to dedicate himself to his presidential campaign. He announced that he would seek re-election in 2017, after the Supreme Court allowed it in April 2015. On 15 December 2016, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal decided, by two votes to one, to allow Hernández to stand in the primary elections by the National Party of Honduras on 12 March 2017. National Party Of Honduras
The National Party of Honduras (PNH; es, Partido Nacional de Honduras) is a conservative political party in Honduras founded on 27 February 1902, by Manuel Bonilla Chirinos. Historically it has been one of the two most influential parties in the country. The party's platform is based on Christian humanist doctrine, and its five main principles are common wealth, dignity of the human person, equality, solidarity and subsidiarity. Since the foundation of the National Party, Honduras has had 13 PNH presidents. Romeo Orlando Vásquez Velásquez (born 20 January 1957) is a Honduras, Honduran politician and retired brigadier general. He was the head of the military of Honduras from January 11, 2005 to June 25, 2009. Early life He was born in Siguatepeque, Comayagua Department. In 1972, he joined the army, and he attended the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) at least twice, in 1976 and 1984. Ricardo Antonio Álvarez Arias (born 4 February 1963) is the former mayor of Tegucigalpa and the former First Vice President of Honduras.
