The 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at Scandinavium and Svenska Mässan in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 1–3 March 2013. Bidding process The decision to grant the event for Gothenburg was made by the European Athletics Council at their long meeting in Malta on October 15, 2007. Initially, Gothenburg applied for the 2011 Championships against Paris. The European Athletic Association thought the two cities presented very good concepts, and it ended up with the two candidates get one championship each; Paris in 2011 and Gothenburg in 2013. Gothenburg will use the concept ''All under one roof''. Venue The main venue for the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be Scandinavium with a maximum capacity of 12,000 spectators, but at the event the arena will have about 6,500 spectators because of the reconstruction. Stephen Scullion (born 9 November 1988) is an Irish middle-distance and long-distance runner. Early life Scullion was born in Belfast and attended Wellington College. Athletic career Scullion was selected for Northern Ireland at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 1500m and 5000m, but missed out due to illness. He competed in the 3000 metres at the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships and in the 10000 m at the 2018 European Athletics Championships. At the 2019 Houston Marathon he finished tenth in a personal best, despite taking a wrong turn and being corrected by a member of the public. He qualified for the 2019 World Championships and for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Scullion finished second in the 2019 Dublin Marathon and eleventh in the 2020 London Marathon. Adil Bouafif (born 31 December 1978) is a Swedish long distance runner who also competes in marathon. He has competed for Sweden since 2010. Career He came to Sweden from Morocco in 2007 and became a full Swedish citizen in 2010; he has competed for Sweden ever since. Bouafif ran the marathon at the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, Spain. He did not complete the race.
