2013 Chicago Red Stars Season
The 2013 Chicago Red Stars season is the fifth season of the soccer club and its first season in National Women's Soccer League. Major events In November 2012, it was announced that there would be eight teams in a new women's professional soccer league, the National Women's Soccer League will be subsidized by the USSF, the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF). The three federations would pay the salaries of their national team players (24 from the US, 16 from Canada, and 12 from Mexico) to aid the teams in creating world-class rosters while staying under the salary cap. The players would be distributed evenly (as possible) among the eight teams in an allocation process. USSF would run the league offices and set the schedule. Chicago Red Stars
The Chicago Red Stars are a professional women's soccer club based in Bridgeview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. A founding member of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league, they have played in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) since 2013. WPS was the NWSL's predecessor as the professional women's soccer league in the United States, and the Red Stars played in the WPS in 2009 and 2010. After leaving the WPS in December 2010 due to the league's financial issues, the club joined the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for the 2011 season. In 2012, the Red Stars co-founded and played in Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL-E): a one-year league which bridged the WPS and the NWSL. Jen Hoy
Jennifer Rose Hoy (born January 18, 1991) is an American former professional soccer forward. She played for Chicago Red Stars and Sky Blue FC of the NWSL. Early life Raised in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, Hoy attended Germantown Academy where she finished her high school career with 110 goals and 46 assists. She scored 36 goals during her senior year. Hoy was voted three-time league MVP and was named by the Philadelphia Inquirer as Player of the Year the same year. Hoy also earned all-league and all-state honors as a track athlete. She was also a gymnast for eight years before choosing soccer as her primary sport. Hoy played for club team, FC Bucks Vipers, and helped the team win state cups for six seasons. Julianne Sitch
Julianne Marie Sitch (born September 18, 1983) is an American former professional soccer defender. She is currently a coach for the Chicago Red Stars and head coach of the University of Chicago men's soccer team. In 2022, she became the first woman in NCAA history to lead a men’s team to a national championship. Jacqueline Manny (; born December 29, 1987) is an American former professional soccer defender who last played for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women's Soccer League. Early life Santacaterina was raised in Geneva, Illinois, where she attended Geneva High School and finished her high school career with 49 goals and 47 assists in 70 games, all as midfielder for the Lady Vikings. Taryn Elizabeth Hemmings (born April 26, 1986) is an American former professional soccer defender. Early life Hemmings grew up in Greeley, Colorado and attended Greeley West High School. Lydia Vandenbergh
Lydia Kathleen Jackson (; born January 2, 1984) is an American soccer coach and retired player who played as a midfielder. Coaching career Vandenbergh worked as a coach for Matthews Soccer Club in Charlotte, North Carolina from 2006 to 2007. In 2008, she was an assistant coach at Charlotte Christian School, while also serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Florida State Seminoles. Rachel Moy Quon (born May 21, 1991) is an American-Canadian former soccer defender. She played for the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women's Soccer League and for the Canada women's national soccer team. Early life Quon was born in Los Angeles, California, to a Canadian father and an American mother. She grew up in Lake Forest, Illinois, and attended Lake Forest High School. As a freshman in 2006, she was named All-Section and All-Conference. During her second year, she provided the most assists on her team and was voted All-State and All-Conference, and was named NSCAA All-American.
