2012–13 Liga Panameña De Fútbol Season
The 2012–13 Liga Panameña de Fútbol season is the 25th season of top-flight football in Panama. The season began on 20 July 2012 and is scheduled to end in May 2013. Ten teams will complete throughout the entire season. Teams Colón C-3 finished in 10th place in the overall table last season and were relegated to the Liga Nacional de Ascenso. Taking their place for this season are the overall champions of last season's Liga Nacional de Ascenso, Río Abajo F.C. Liga Panameña De Fútbol
The Liga Panameña de Fútbol (LPF) ( en, Panamanian Football League) is the top division football league in Panama. Until 2009, the league was named ''Asociación Nacional Pro Fútbol (ANAPROF)''. Competition format The league's season is divided into two tournaments called the Apertura and Clausura. Teams are divided into two Conferences (Eastern and Western). The Eastern Conference is composed by: Tauro, Plaza Amador, Alianza, Club Deportivo del Este, Arabe Unido, and Sporting San Miguelito, while the Western Conference is composed by: Herrera FC, Club Atletico Independiente, Veraguas, Club Universitario, Chiriqui, and San Francisco. Estadio Bernardo "Candela" Gil is a football stadium in San Miguelito, Panamá which hosts Liga Panameña de Fútbol team Sporting San Miguelito, Chepo F.C. and Plaza Amador and Primera A teams Orión and Paraiso F.C. The stadium was formerly known as Estadio 28 de Diciembre'' which had a small 90x57 meter field of mixed sand and gravel, which made it hard for players to compete and therefore could not be used for ANAPROF games. In 2007, in a joint effort from the Panamanian government and the national sport institute (INDE), they were allowed to spend $298,880 in installing artificial turf to the field and increasing its size to 98x60 m. The stadium later was renamed for Bernardo Gil, a pioneer who managed to expropriate the land for use as a football stadium. The first official game in the renovated stadium was played on Sunday September 23, 2007 when Sporting '89 tied 1-1 with Atlético Chiriquí in the ANAPROF championship. San Miguelito is a city and district (''distrito'') of Panamá Province in Panama. Estadio Agustín ''Muquita'' Sánchez is a football stadium in Panamá Oeste Province, Panama which hosts Liga Panameña de Fútbol teams San Francisco and Independiente, as well as other teams and local competitions from the La Chorrera district. Formerly the stadium had slightly smaller dimensions and natural turf, but it was still used for ANAPROF games. In 2008, a joint effort from the Panamanian government and the national sport institute (INDE) spent $1,997,192 in installing artificial turf to the field, increase its dimensions to 105×68 m, seating capacity and also adding a better lighting system. The Luis Ernesto "Cascarita" Tapia Court or ''Mini Rommel'' as it was known, is an alternative court to Estadio Rommel Fernandez which provides training to the Panama national football team, but is also used by clubs of Panamanian Football League. Plaza Amador is a Panamanian football club based in Panama City, that currently plays in Liga Panameña de Fútbol. It is the oldest team in Panama. History C.D Plaza Amador was founded in 1955 by Panamanian sports legend León Cocoliso Tejada (1927–1982). Under Tejada's leadership, the club relied heavily on developing and training players (rather than high-profile signings). After Tejada's's death, new directors Andrés Villa, Daniel Vàsquez and Enrique Cajar led the club back to the highest level of Panamanian football.
