Lithuania
Lithuania (; lt, Lietuva ), officially the Republic of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Respublika, links=no ), is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. Algirdas Šocikas
Algirdas Šocikas (14 May 1928 – 21 November 2012) was a Lithuanian amateur heavyweight boxer who won the European title in 1953 and 1955 and finished fifth at the 1952 Olympics. He won six Soviet (1950–1954, 1956), six Lithuanian (1947–1948, 1951–1953, 1956) and three Baltic championships (1948, 1950, 1952). After retiring in 1957 he worked as a boxing coach in Kaunas and raised the Olympic medalists Ričardas Tamulis and Jonas Čepulis, among others. Stanislovas "Stasys" Stonkus (29 December 1931 – 19 February 2012) was a Soviet and Lithuanian basketball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1952 Summer Olympics and in the 1956 Summer Olympics. 2012 European Track Championships
The 2012 European Track Championships was the third edition of the elite European Track Championships in track cycling. It was held on October 19–21, 2012 and took place at the Cido Arena in Panevėžys, Lithuania. It was the first European Elite Track Championships that had opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was held on 19 October, an hour before the start of the evening session. Held some time after the 2012 Summer Olympics, a number of elite European cyclists, notably from Great Britain and France were not in attendance, either through retirement or a rest period. Lithuania In The Eurovision Song Contest 2012
Lithuania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Lithuanian entry was selected through a national selection, organised by the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT. Donny Montell represented Lithuania with the song "Love Is Blind", which qualified from the second semi-final and went on to place 14th in the final, scoring 70 points. Before Eurovision Participation On 11 September 2011, LRT confirmed Lithuania's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan, although the broadcaster struggled with financial problems. Additionally, the Lithuanian head of Delegation, Audrius Girzadas, has not excluded the possibility of selecting next year's national representative in Eurovision internally, given the financial difficulties LRT is going through.
