2012 World Table Tennis Championships
The 2012 Liebherr World Team Table Tennis Championships were held at the Westfalenhallen in Dortmund, Germany from March 25 to April 1, 2012. It was the 51st edition to be contested. 120 men's teams and 92 women's teams were allocated to different divisions according to the final ranking of the previous World Team Table Tennis Championships and the ITTF World Team Rankings. The winner of the first division, called the Championship Division, was crowned as the new champion. To be eligible to have a team entered for the team events in 2012 Summer Olympics, the ITTF member association must have participated in the tournament. The ranking of the 2012 Championships was taken into account for the Olympic qualification after the final world Olympic qualification tournament, which was held from May 10 to May 13. Westfalenhallen
Westfalenhallen (English: Halls of Westphalia) is a commercial complex composed of conference (Kongresszentrum Dortmund) and exhibition centers (Messe Dortmund) with an indoor arena (Westfalenhalle), located in Dortmund, Germany. It is surrounded by the Eissportzentrum Westfalenhallen, Stadion Rote Erde, Signal Iduna Park and Helmut-Körnig-Halle. The original building was opened in 1925, but was destroyed during World War II. Reopening on 2 February 1952, new halls were built, the "Große Westfalenhalle". The "Kleine Westfalenhalle" served also for balls, exhibitions and concerts, such as the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, until the Opernhaus Dortmund was opened in 1966. Dimitrij Ovtcharov
Dimitrij Ovtcharov (russian: Дмитрий Овчаров) or Dmytro Ovtcharov ( uk, Дмитро Овчаров; born 2 September 1988) is a Ukrainian-born German table tennis player. His father Mikhail (or Mikhaylo), a Soviet table tennis champion in 1982, moved his family to Germany shortly after Dimitrij was born. Since 2008, Ovtcharov has won a total of two silver and four bronze medals at the Olympics. Ranked first January to February 2018, he is ranked ninth in the world by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) as of November 2022. Koki Niwa
is a Japanese male table tennis player. He is the gold medalist at the 2010 Youth Olympics and he won the World Junior Table Tennis Championships in 2010 (doubles) and 2011 (singles). Jun Mizutani
is a retired Japanese table tennis player. He became the youngest Japanese national champion at the age of 17. His consecutive singles titles at the national championships from 2007 to 2011 made him the first man to win the event five times in a row. After defeating Vladimir Samsonov for the bronze medal by 4–1 in the 2016 Rio Olympics, he finally seized his first singles medal in the three main international tournaments. Ryu Seung-min (; born August 5, 1982 in Seoul, South Korea) is a Korean table tennis player who won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the men's singles competition.
