The 2012 Vuelta a Asturias was the 56th edition of the Vuelta a Asturias road cycling stage race, which was held from 27 April to 29 April 2012. The race started in Oviedo and finished at Alto del Naranco. Beñat Intxausti Elorriaga (born 20 March 1986) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2007 and 2019 for the Nicolas Mateos, , , , and teams. Career Intxausti was born in Amorebieta-Etxano, Biscay. In 2012, he won the Vuelta a Asturias and finished 10th overall in the Vuelta a España despite working for his team leader, Alejandro Valverde. In 2013, Intxausti won stage 16 in the Giro d'Italia after being part of a breakaway and later finished 8th overall. He also had the leaders' jersey for one day. In the Tour of Beijing, Intxausti won the only mountain stage and claimed the general classification victory. After five seasons with Movistar, in September 2015 announced that Intxausti would join them in 2016 on an initial two-year contract. Alejandro Manuel Marque Porto (born 23 October 1981 in Pontevedra) is a Spanish cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team . Career Marque was in fine form at the 2013 Volta a Portugal, winning the ninth stage, a individual time trial, before winning the race overall. This earned him a contract with the for the 2014 season. However, Marque tested positive for betamethasone during the race. Marque claimed that the UCI had known about the use of the substance as he had used in the days leading up to the race to treat a bad knee. Vuelta Asturias
Vuelta Asturias is a professional cycle road race held in Spain in early May each year. The event was first run in 1925 but has not been held consistently until 1968 to present. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. On 25 April 2014, the Vuelta Asturias was suspended one week before its start due to the lack of funds and sponsors.
