2012 USA Sevens
The 2012 USA Sevens was the ninth edition of the USA Sevens tournament and the fifth tournament of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. The host stadium was the Sam Boyd Stadium. Samoa won the title by defeating New Zealand 26–19 in the final. Format The teams were divided into pools of four teams, who played a round-robin within the pool. Points were awarded in each pool on a different schedule from most rugby tournaments—3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss. The top two teams in each pool advanced to the Cup competition. The four quarterfinal losers dropped into the bracket for the Plate. Junior Tomasi Cama
Tomasi Cama (born 11 November 1980) is a New Zealand former rugby union player. He played for Manawatu in the Air New Zealand Cup, and the New Zealand Sevens The New Zealand national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens, Summer Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. Cecil Sebastian Afrika (born 3 March 1988) is a South African rugby sevens player for the South Africa national team, where he plays at flyhalf. He also plays for the San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby (MLR). Afrika was a member of the South African Sevens team that won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Early life Afrika attended Hentie Cilliers High School in Virginia. Afrika represented the South African Schoolboys in 2006. 2011 USA Sevens
The 2011 USA Sevens competition was held on February 12 and February 13 at Sam Boyd Stadium in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. The USA Sevens is played annually as part of the IRB Sevens World Series for international rugby sevens (seven-a-side version of rugby union). It was the fourth of eight events in the 2010–11 IRB Sevens World Series. Format The tournament consisted of four round-robin pools of four teams. All sixteen teams progressed to the knockout stage. USA Sevens
The USA Sevens is a rugby sevens tournament held annually during March in the United States. The USA Sevens is the largest annual rugby competition in North America, drawing over 60,000 fans, and is broadcast live in the United States by ESPN. The USA Sevens was introduced in 2004, originally in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson, California. The event moved to San Diego in 2007, and from there moved to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas in 2010. 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series
The 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC Sevens World Series, was the 13th annual series of the IRB Sevens World Series tournaments for full national sides run by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000. Sevens is traditionally played in a two-day tournament format. However, the most famous event, the Hong Kong Sevens, was played over three days, largely because it involves 24 teams instead of the normal 16. Sam Boyd Stadium
Sam Boyd Stadium (formerly the Las Vegas Silver Bowl) is a football stadium in the western United States, located in Whitney, Nevada, an unincorporated community in the Las Vegas Valley. It honors Sam Boyd (1910–1993), a major figure in the hotel and casino industry in Las Vegas. The stadium consisted of an uncovered horseshoe-shaped single-decked bowl, with temporary seating occasionally erected in the open north end zone. The artificial turf field had a conventional north–south orientation, at an elevation of above sea level. The Samoa national rugby sevens team, referred to as Samoa Sevens or Manu Samoa 7s, competes in the annual World Rugby Sevens Series.
