2012 Trans-Am Season
The 2012 Trans-Am Series was the 44th season of the Sports Car Club of America's Trans American Road Racing Championship. New management From 2012 onward, Trans-Am Race Company, LLC, has managed the series. They will manage the series until at least 2016. They are looking to "bring the series back to its glory years". Their plan is to get away from the new, three-class format and return to the pony cars that made the series famous. The series also established a media partner, GoRacingTV. Select markets would also be able to view Trans Am races on MAVTV. GoRacingTV was a website providing highlights of various racing events. News It was announced on November 17, 2011, that a new Ford Mustang was in the works for entry into the series during the 2012 season. Sports Car Club Of America
The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is a non-profit American automobile club and sanctioning body supporting road racing, rallying, and autocross in the United States. Formed in 1944, it runs many programs for both amateur and professional racers. History The SCCA traces its roots to the Automobile Racing Club of America (not to be confused with the current stock car series of the same name). ARCA was founded in 1933 by brotherMilesand Sam Collier, and dissolved in 1941 at the outbreak of World War II. The SCCA was formed in 1944 as an enthusiast group. The SCCA began sanctioning road racing in 1948 with the inaugural Watkins Glen Grand Prix. Cameron Argetsinger, an SCCA member and local enthusiast who would later become Director of Pro Racing and Executive Director of the SCCA, helped organize the event for the SCCA. Porsche 911 GT3
The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance homologation model of the Porsche 911 sports car. It is a line of high-performance models, which began with the 1973 911 Carrera RS. The GT3 has had a successful racing career in the one-make national and regional Porsche Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge series, as well as the international Porsche Supercup supporting the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. Bill Prietzel
William Prietzel (born September 8, 1952) is an American racing driver from Richfield, Wisconsin. He has raced in dirt late models, the Mid-American Stock Car Series, SCCA, and had one NASCAR Nationwide Series start in 2012. He is nicknamed the "Franklin Flyer" as he lived in Franklin, Wisconsin during his dirt track racing days. Racing career Dirt racing Prietzel began racing in 1973, primarily on dirt tracks. His most well-known dirt track accomplishment was winning the 1977 dirt late model track championship at Hales Corners Speedway. He built a late model for an open rules show that was nicknamed the Franklin Flyer; the car featured large wings and it set the track record at Hales Corners. Asphalt stock cars and Mid American series Prietzel felt that his car was becoming outdated by the early 1990s, so he began tour racing on the asphalt in Mid-American Stock Car Series in 1993.
