2012 Sorta Unofficial New Zealand Film Awards
The 2012 Sorta Unofficial New Zealand Film Awards was the first presentation for the Sorta Unofficial NZ Film Awards, a New Zealand film industry award. Following the demise of the Aotearoa Film and Television Awards and the announcement that the Screen Directors Guild of New Zealand would not hold film awards in 2012, New Zealand film industry figure Ant Timpson and nzherald.co.nz online entertainment editor Hugh Sundae announced the formation of the Sorta Unofficial New Zealand Film Awards, also known as the Moas. The inaugural awards ceremony took place at the Civic Wintergarden in Auckland on 4 December 2012 and was webcast at the nzherald.co.nz, and broadcast on the Rialto Channel on 16 December 2012. Ant Timpson
Ant Timpson (born 21 April 1966) is a New Zealand film producer best known for producing ''The ABCs of Death'' series, '' Turbo Kid'', ''Deathgasm'' and ''The Greasy Strangler''. He founded and hosts the 48Hours film contest. Career In 2003, Timpson founded the annual 48Hours film challenge, a New Zealand-based competition where teams of filmmakers create a short film in 48 hours. Taika Waititi and Te Radar won in the festival's first year. The film '' Turbo Kid'' originated as a submission for the "T" segment in '' ABCs of Death''. Though not selected, Timpson was impressed and approached the filmmakers to expand it into a feature. Timpson got Elijah Wood and his production company, SpectreVision, involved in producing ''The Greasy Strangler''. In 2016, he won the British Independent Film Awards Discovery Award. Inge Rademeyer
Inge Rademeyer is an actress and filmmaker. Born in South Africa she immigrated to New Zealand at 15. After majoring in Film, TV and Media Studies as well as Theatre and Drama at the University of Auckland, Rademeyer moved to Wellington to pursue working in the growing New Zealand film industry. She worked at Academy-Award winning VFX house Weta Digital on projects such as '' King Kong'', '' Avatar'' and '' The Hobbit''. Jim Moriarty
James Moriarty (born 20 June 1953) is a New Zealand actor and theatre director, who began acting professionally in 1967. He came to national attention and is probably best known for his role as the school teacher Riki Winiata in the 1970s soap opera '' Close to Home''. His work has toured nationally and internationally. Moriarty is from the Māori tribes of Ngāti Toa, Ngāti Koata and Ngāti Kahungunu. He is also known for his performance as a Vietnam War veteran in John Broughton's solo work ''Michael James Manaia'' which toured New Zealand and played at the Edinburgh Festival in 1991. Andy Anderson (actor)
Neville Anderson (born 18 July 1947) known professionally as Andy Anderson and also billed as Andy James, is a New Zealand musician and actor who worked a lot in Australia. As a musician he is best known as the lead singer of 1960s band The Missing Links, and as an actor he is well known for his roles on both Australian and New Zealand television. Music career Anderson who was born in Naenae, Lower Hutt, near Wellington performed in several well-known Australian rock bands of the 1960s, in 1965 he joined the second lineup of famed Sydney garage punk group the Missing Links as lead vocalist, and he performed on the group's only album. Pietra Brettkelly
Pietra Brettkelly (born 1965) is a New Zealand filmmaker, known for her documentaries. She is a documentary filmmaker submitted three times for Oscar consideration, a member of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, and was recently named an Arts Laureate of New Zealand. Her films have premiered in five of the world's top six film festivals – Sundance, Toronto, Venice, Berlin and Tribeca Film Festivals – and have garnered many awards. She is known for her independent, risk-taking style, which has taken her to many different countries. David Long (New Zealand Musician)
David Long is a musician, composer and producer. In 2020 he won best score at the APRA Silver Scrolls for the BBC drama series, The Luminaries. He composes mainly for film and television but also contemporary dance. He has worked on all of Peter Jackson’s films of the last two decades. He performs with two bands, The Labcoats (two albums) and Teeth (one album). In 2021 he composed the score for the feature film, Punch and a dance show for Tupua Tugafua as well as composing for two more series of Mystic. Dawn Raid Entertainment is a record label based in Papatoetoe, South Auckland, in New Zealand. It has signed many New Zealand Hip-hop and R&B artists such as Savage, Adeaze, Aaradhna, The Deceptikonz, Devolo and Ill Semantics. The founders of Dawn Raid Entertainment announced the closure of the recording label on 19 April 2007 due to liquidation. By June 2007, due to new owners, the label started operating again. Artists represented include Savage, Mareko, The Deceptikonz, Horsemen Family, Sweet & Irie. At its peak, Dawn Raid Entertainment was home to many gold and platinum-selling New Zealand hip hop and R&B artists. Don McGlashan
Donald McGlashan (born 18 July 1959) is a New Zealand composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist who Is best known for membership in the bands Blam Blam Blam, The Front Lawn, and The Mutton Birds, before going solo. He has also composed for cinema and television. Among other instruments, McGlashan has played guitar, drums, euphonium and French horn. McGlashan has played with percussion group From Scratch, and bands The Bellbirds, The Plague, and composed pieces for New Zealand's Limbs Dance Company. Sir Richard Leslie Taylor (born 8 February 1965) is the founder, creative director and head of New Zealand film prop and special effects company Wētā Workshop. Early life Taylor was born in Cheadle, Cheshire, England, on 8 February 1965, and emigrated as a child to New Zealand, where his family lived at Te Hihi, and later the Auckland suburb of Patumahoe. Duncan Sarkies
Duncan Sarkies is a New Zealand screenwriter, playwright, novelist, stand-up comic and short story writer. Sarkies grew up in the South Island city of Dunedin and is the brother of Robert Sarkies a New Zealand film director who is also a scriptwriter.
