2012 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships
The 2012 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships were held from November 18 to 25 at the Naseby Curling Club in Naseby, New Zealand. The championships acted as the Pacific zone qualifiers for the World Curling Championships. The top two women's berths, China and Japan, qualified for the 2013 World Women's Curling Championship in Riga, Latvia, while the top two men's berths, China and Japan, qualified for the 2013 World Men's Curling Championship in Victoria, British Columbia. Competition format This edition of the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships will have a different competition format from previous Pacific-Asia Curling Championships, per World Curling Federation regulations. The men's tournament will have seven teams competing in a single round robin format, while the women's tournament will have six teams competing in a double round robin format. Naseby, New Zealand
Naseby is a small town, formerly a borough, in the Maniototo area of Central Otago, New Zealand. It is named after a village in Northamptonshire, England. Previous names of the township were Parker's, Hogburn and Mt Ida. The town catch phrase is "2000 feet above worry level" indicating its altitude. Naseby is 395 km (5 hours drive) from Christchurch and 143 km (1 hour 45 minutes drive) from Dunedin. An important township during the gold rush of the 1860s, Gold was discovered in the Hogburn in 1863. Much of the town has been preserved from this time and has something of the air of a working museum. At its peak, the population of the town was around 4,000 miners. Eighteen stores, 14 hotels, two butchers and a hospital had also been built to service the miners. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. Angus McKinnon Young (born 31 March 1955) is an Australian musician, best known as the co-founder, lead guitarist, songwriter, and the only remaining founding member of the hard rock band AC/DC. Hugh Ronald Alexander Millikin (born 4 July 1957 in North Vancouver (district municipality), North Vancouver, British Columbia) is an Australian curling, curler originally from Ottawa, Ontario. Career In 1986, while still residing in the Canadian province of Ontario, Millikin played second position for Dave Van Dine's Canadian Mixed Curling Championship team. The 2013 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2013 for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 30 to April 7, 2013 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This marked the twenty-first time that Canada hosted the World Men's Championship, the fifth time that the province of British Columbia hosted the World Men's Championship, and the second time that Victoria hosted the World Men's Championship.
