2012 New York Mets Season
The 2012 New York Mets season was the franchise's 51st season and its fourth in Citi Field. The team celebrated its 50th anniversary, as they became a team in 1962. Johan Santana pitched the first no-hitter in franchise history on June 1, 2012. The Mets missed the post season for a 6th straight year. Offseason Shortly after the 2011 season ended, the Mets made changes to their coaching staff, keeping only pitching coach Dan Warthen and hitting coach Dave Hudgens. 3rd base coach Chip Hale went to the Oakland Athletics to join manager Bob Melvin. General Manager Sandy Alderson said that the "changes were necessary for us to move forward." Former A's manager Bob Geren was named to replace Hale. National League East
The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. Josh Lewin
Josh Lewin is an American sportscaster who works as a play-by-play announcer for the UCLA Bruins football and basketball teams. Early life and career Lewin is originally from Rochester, New York, but lived outside of Boston for several years as a young boy. As early as nursery school, he was an avid sports fan. He graduated from Northwestern University, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, in 1990. Andrés Torres (baseball)
Andrés Yungo Torres Feliciano Jr., (born January 26, 1978) is an American former professional baseball center fielder. He stands tall and weighs and is a switch-hitter. Torres played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. Born in New Jersey, Torres grew up in Puerto Rico before returning to the United States to attend Miami-Dade Community College. He was a track star at Miami-Dade and did not begin playing baseball until later. In 1998, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the fourth round of the 1998 Major League Baseball draft. Torres played in their minor leagues until 2002, when he made his major league debut. Ramón Ramírez (Dominican Pitcher)
Ramón Emilio Ramírez (born August 31, 1981) is a Dominican former relief pitcher. He pitched for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), and the Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball (MLB). Ramírez was signed by the Texas Rangers in 1996, as an infielder. After one season in their minor leagues, he was released. He spent the next three years learning how to pitch before joining the Hiroshima Toyo Carp's Dominican academy in 2000. He pitched in two games with the Carp in 2002 and was signed by the New York Yankees in 2003. Robert Peter Geren (born September 22, 1961) is an American former professional baseball catcher and manager, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees (–) and San Diego Padres (). Geren managed the Oakland Athletics from through . He served in various coaching capacities for the A's and New York Mets, and is currently the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bench coach. Robert Paul Melvin (born October 28, 1961) is an American former professional baseball player and coach, who is the manager of the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has been named Manager of the Year three times. 2012 Oakland Athletics Season
The Oakland Athletics' 2012 season was the organization's 45th in Oakland, California and the 112th in club history. The team finished with a final record of 94–68, claiming first place in the American League West and reaching the postseason for the first time since 2006. After winning their last game of the season, they took sole possession of the West for the first time all year, overtaking the Texas Rangers. The A's had trailed Texas by 13 games on June 30, and had a five-game deficit with nine days left in the season. Chip Hale
Walter William "Chip" Hale (born December 2, 1964) is an American professional baseball infielder, coach, and manager. Hale played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1989 through 1997, and managed in MLB from 2015 through 2016. He was named head coach of the Arizona Wildcats of the University of Arizona in July 2021. Hale played in MLB for the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers, mostly as a second baseman and third baseman. David Mark Hudgens (born December 5, 1956) is an American former professional baseball first baseman, who is currently the MLB hitting strategist for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). Playing career Hudgens was selected by the New York Mets in the first round of the 1975 MLB Draft, and later by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th round of the 1977 MLB Draft. He did not sign either time, and instead chose to attend Arizona State University. He appeared in two College World Series during his four years with the Sun Devils. Daniel Dean Warthen (born December 1, 1952) is an American former professional baseball player and current coach for the Texas Rangers. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a left-handed pitcher from to for the Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Houston Astros. Early life Warthen was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and is Jewish. He attended Omaha North High School in Omaha, graduating in 1971, and was a high school All-American quarterback, tight end, and linebacker in football and also a star in baseball. The 2011 New York Mets season was the franchise's 50th season and its third at Citi Field. Following a poor 2010 season, the Mets sought their first postseason appearance since 2006. However, they failed to make the playoffs for the 5th straight season. Johan Alexander Santana Araque (; born March 13, 1979) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball starting pitcher.
