2012 Major League Lacrosse Season
The 2012 Major League Lacrosse season is the 12th season of the league. The season began on April 28, 2012 and concluded with the Chesapeake Bayhawks winning the championship game on August 26, 2012 over the Denver Outlaws 16-6. Milestones & events Team movement On January 21, 2011, Commissioner David Gross announced that Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbus, Ohio, had been approved as expansion teams for the 2012 season. Gross also announced that, with the adding of two more teams, (to bring the total to eight) the league would return to a fourteen-game season in 2012. Major League Lacrosse
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was a men's field lacrosse league in the United States. The league's inaugural season was in 2001. Teams played anywhere from ten to 16 games in a summertime regular season. This was followed by a four-team playoff for the championship trophy, the Steinfeld Trophy, named after founder Jake Steinfeld. League attendance peaked at 6,417 in 2011 and the 2019 average was 4,587. The Chesapeake Bayhawks and New York Lizards (originally the Baltimore Bayhawks and Long Island Lizards) were MLL members throughout its existence and competed in the first three championship games, with the Lizards winning two. The Boston Cannons, the last of the six charter franchises to remain in their original market with their original name, won their first championship in 2011. The Philadelphia Barrage returned to the league in 2020 after an 11-season hiatus. Ohio Machine
The Ohio Machine were a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) professional men's field lacrosse team based in Obetz, Ohio. They first played in the 2012 MLL season and continued through the 2018 season. On August 19, 2017, the Machine won their first championship in franchise history by defeating the Denver Outlaws, 17-12. The Machine made the playoffs four times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), appeared in the league championship game twice (2016, 2017), and won one title (2017). Franchise history 2012-2013: Early struggles In January 2011, MLL voted to grant expansion franchises to Columbus and Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2012 MLL season. Both teams were owned by New Balance founder and MLL investor Jim Davis. Drew Adams
Drew Adams (born August 19, 1986 in Springfield, Pennsylvania) is a former professional lacrosse player who played for the Archers Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League and the Long Island/New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse. Adams played collegiately at Penn State University, where he was named an All American three times. Adams ranks first in PSU history with 694 career saves. Adams has enjoyed a successful career in Major League Lacrosse, winning his first championship in 2015. He has been an MLL All- Star 4 times, and has been named the leagues Goalie of the Year following the 2011, 2012, and 2015 seasons. On the International level, Adams is a current member of Team USA, winning a silver medal in the 2014 World Games. Adams announced his retirement following the 2021 PLL season, finishing his career as the all-time leader in saves in professional outdoor lacrosse. Matt Gibson (lacrosse)
Matt Gibson (born 7 May 1953) is a Scottish former professional snooker player. Career Gibson was runner-up to Tony Knowles in the 1972 British Junior Championship, and defeated Ronnie Millar to win the 1980 Scottish Amateur Championship. He represented Scotland at the 1980 IBSF World Snooker Championship, finishing fourth in his seven-player qualifying group after winning three matches. He was accepted as a professional by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association in 1981. He reached the final of his first event as a professional, the 1981 Scottish Professional Championship by defeating Bert Demarco 5–3 and Jim Donnelly 6–4. He lost the final 7–11 to Ian Black.
