Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. In the 16th century King Henry VIII was noted for his prowess in court competitions of weight and hammer throwing. The first events resembling the modern shot put likely occurred in the Middle Ages when soldiers held competitions in which they hurled cannonballs. Mariia Pomazan
Mariia Pomazan (Ukrainian: Марія Олександрівна Помазан; born 15 October 1988) is a Ukrainian Paralympic athlete. She competes in throwing events in the F35 classification for athletes with cerebral palsy. , she holds Women's F35 world records for shot put and discus. Pomazan started athletics at age 19 and made her international debut in 2010. At the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, she won two gold medals with F35 world record throws in both shot put and discus. She broke both these world records at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. In London, a miscalculation of the Raza Points System in the combined F35/F36 discus event caused extended confusion and protest. Irena Perminienė (born 17 April 1958) is a Lithuanian former Paralympic athlete who competed in shot put at international track and field competitions. She is a World and European silver medalist and has competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics. Accident At the age of twelve, Perminienė boarded onto her school bus one morning in early November in her hometown of Užkalnis. The bus was full of schoolchildren heading to school, the school bus was on an icy road, lost control and turned over onto its side. Perminienė suffered a spinal cord injury from this accident. Once Perminienė started using a wheelchair following the accident, she tried out various wheelchair sports such as Paralympic powerlifting, sitting volleyball and wheelchair racing. Marianne Buggenhagen (born 26 May 1953 in Ueckermünde, East Germany) is a Paralympian Track and field, athlete from Germany competing mainly in throwing events. Career history She first competed in the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain. There she won four gold medals in discus, javelin, shot put and pentathlon. Then at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, United States she again won the shot and discus and won a bronze in the javelin. The following games in 2000 Summer Paralympics, 2000 in Sydney, Australia she yet again won the shot put. At her fourth games in 2004 Summer Paralympics, 2004 she won her fourth consecutive shot put title and won a silver in the discus throw. Sanela Redžić
Sanela Redžić is a Bosnian disabled athlete who competes for her nation. She has won bronze medals at the IPC Athletics European and World Championships, and placed fourth in her event at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Career Sanela Redžić grew up in Tešanj, Bosnia and Herzegovina, during the Bosnian War. Following the war, she started taking part in competitive shooting, become the local champion in her first year. Redžić started taking part in discus, javelin throw and shot put for recreation in 2005, only taking part competitively from 2010 onwards. She trains at Athletic Disability Club Chelik, although without full funding and initially without a proper sport prosthesis. She competes in the F42 disability class.
