2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's Triple Jump
The men's triple jump at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place March 10 and 11 at the Ataköy Athletics Arena. Triple Jump
The triple jump, sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or the hop, skip and jump, is a track and field event, similar to the long jump. As a group, the two events are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". The competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit. The triple jump was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympics event since the Games' inception in 1896. According to World Athletics rules, "the hop shall be made so that an athlete lands first on the same foot as that from which he has taken off; in the step he shall land on the other foot, from which, subsequently, the jump is performed." Dong Bin (; born 22 November 1988) is a Chinese track and field athlete who specialises in the triple jump. He is a two-time gold medallist at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships and has a personal best of 17.58 metres, which he set winning the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics. In 2016 he won the World Indoor Championship. His indoor best of 17.33 m is an Asian and Chinese indoor record. Daniele Greco (born 1 March 1989) is an Italian athlete competing in the triple jump. Biography On 9 June 2012 at Potenza, he jumped 17.47 m, that is the 2nd best performance in Italy of all-time, after the national record of Fabrizio Donato with the measure of 17.73 m. He won the National Championships in Brixen on 8 July 2012 with 17.67m (+3.4), defeating the European champion, Fabrizio Donato. Fabrizio Donato (born 14 August 1976) is an Italian athlete competing in the triple jump and occasionally in the long jump. He is known for winning gold medals at the 2001 Mediterranean Games and the 2009 European Indoor Championships, the latter in a new championship record of 17.59 metres. He is the Italian record holder with 17.60 metres outdoor and 17.73 indoor. Biography He was born in Frosinone. He participated at the 2000 Olympic Games without reaching the final. Jadel Abdul Ghani Gregório (born 16 September 1980 in Jandaia do Sul, Paraná) is a Brazilian athlete competing in long jump and triple jump. Based in São Paulo, he has competed in several international championships since 2001. His jump of 17.90m is the South American and Brazilian record and ranks him tied for eighth best ever. Andrew Ray-Jamie Murphy (born 18 December 1969 in Melbourne, Victoria) is an Australian former triple jumper, best known for his bronze medal at the 2001 World Indoor Championships where he achieved an Oceanian indoor record of 17.20 metres.
