2012 Hong Kong Sevens
The 2012 Hong Kong Sevens was the 37th edition of the Hong Kong Sevens tournament and the sixth tournament of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. The host stadium was the Hong Kong Stadium. Fiji won the title by defeating New Zealand 35–28 in the final. Format The teams were divided into pools of four teams, who played a round-robin within the pool. Points were awarded in each pool on a different scale from that used in most rugby tournaments: 3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss. However, new for 2012 was what was described by organisers as two separate 12-team competitions, called Competition 1 and Competition 2. Competition 1 contained the 12 core teams of the IRB Sevens circuit, who play in every event of the IRB Sevens circuit, in pools A, B and C. Metuisela Talebula
Metuisela Talebula (born 20 May 1991) is a Fijian rugby union footballer. He plays fullback, fly-half and wing for Bordeaux Bègles and Fiji. International Talebula was selected to play for the Fiji Juniors to the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship in Italy. He scored three tries in the tournament and also helped Fiji finish in their best position at sixth. He joined the Fiji Sevens team and helped the Fiji team lift the 2011 Gold Coast Sevens cup title. During the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series, he also helped Fiji lift two more titles by winning the 2012 Hong Kong Sevens where he was the top point scorer collecting 52 points and 2012 London Sevens. In the 2012 Scotland Sevens he was also awarded the top scorer scoring 88 points including joint top-try scorer with eight tries. Paul Lusi Perez (born 26 July 1986) is a Samoan rugby union player. Career Sevens In 2005 and 2006, Perez was part of the Samoa sevens side. He was also a member of the Samoan side that played at the 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament in Hong Kong. Taranaki He then joined the 15-man version of the sport, moving to New Zealand, where he represented between 2006 and 2009. He was also their leading try-scorer in the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup. The 2011 Hong Kong Sevens was a seven-a-side rugby union tournament, part of the 2010–11 IRB Sevens World Series. The competition was being held from 25–27 March in at Hong Kong Stadium in Hong Kong and featured 24 teams. 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series
The 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC Sevens World Series, was the 13th annual series of the IRB Sevens World Series tournaments for full national sides run by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000. Sevens is traditionally played in a two-day tournament format. However, the most famous event, the Hong Kong Sevens, was played over three days, largely because it involves 24 teams instead of the normal 16. Hong Kong Stadium is the main sports venue of Hong Kong. Redeveloped from the old Government Stadium, it reopened as Hong Kong Stadium in March 1994. The New Zealand national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens, Summer Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.
