2012 FIBA European Championship For Small Countries
The 2012 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries was the 13th edition of the tournament, formerly known as the ''Promotion Cup'' or the ''FIBA EuroBasket Division C''. It was played at Serravalle, San Marino, in 2–7 July. The draw took place on 4 December 2011, in Freising, Germany. The Andorra national team was the final winner of the Championship. History This championship was first introduced in 1988, as the Promotion Cup, the competition organized for the lowest ranked European national basketball teams. Serravalle (San Marino)
Serravalle is a ''castello'' in northern San Marino. With a population of 10,878 inhabitants (of which 2,000 are of foreign origin) and an area of 10.53 km2, it is not only the most densely populated municipality in San Marino, but it also contains its largest settlement ( Dogana). Serravalle is located on the edge of the Apennine Mountains. Geography The town borders on Sammarinese municipalities of Domagnano and Borgo Maggiore and the Italian municipalities Verucchio, Rimini and Coriano. The Andorra national basketball team is the national team of Andorra. The national team has always represented in the EuroBasket Division C. It also takes part well in Games of the Small States of Europe. History Despite not joining FIBA until 1988, Andorra made its debut in the 1985 Games of the Small States of Europe where, after winning their first game ever against Luxembourg, finished in the last position after losing to Cyprus and Malta.
