2012 European Men's Handball Championship Qualification
This article describes the qualification for the 2012 European Men's Handball Championship. Qualification system Seeding The draw for the qualification round was held on 31 January 2010 at the EHF headquarters, in Vienna, Austria. Serbia (host nation), and France ( defending champion), were directly qualified. 39 teams (including Serbia) had registered for participation. 37 teams competed for 14 places at the final tournament in 2 distinct Qualification Phases. 2012 European Men's Handball Championship
The 2012 EHF European Men's Handball Championship was the tenth edition of the men's continental handball tournament, which was held in Serbia between 15 and 29 January 2012. Sixteen teams qualified for the event, including host nation Serbia, defending champion France and fourteen national teams through the qualifying tournament. The teams were split into four groups of 4, with the top 3 teams of each group advancing to the main round, carrying the points won against other qualified opponents. Going to the main round with no points, Denmark men's national handball team, Denmark ended up winning the championship after defeating Serbia men's national handball team, Serbia in the final with a scoreline of 21–19. The bronze medal was claimed by Croatia, who defeated Spain 31–27 to win their second bronze and fourth European medal overall. Gergely Harsányi
Gergely János Harsányi (born 3 May 1981) is a Hungarian handballer, who retired from professional handball in 2018 and currently plays for Tatai AC in the Hungarian second division. Career Harsányi started his professional career at his hometown club Nyíregyházi KC, before moving to PLER KC. He spent a decade with the Pestszentlőrinc-based team and captured a Hungarian Cup bronze in 2007. In the 2007–2008 season, he played handball in the German Bundesliga, Frisch Auf Göppingen, and then returned to PLER KC after 1 season. He signed to Ferencvárosi TC in the summer of 2009, however, after financial difficulties with the club were revealed, Harsányi was transferred to Tatabánya-Carbonex KC in the winter break to ease the growing troubles at the club. Tamás Mocsai (born 9 December 1978) is a retired Hungarian handball player who played for MKB Veszprém KC and the Hungarian national team. Currently he serves as the mayor of Felsőmocsolád. Career Club He started to play handball at the age of 10 in Lemgo, where his father, Lajos Mocsai was in charge at that time. He spent his youth career in Germany, before debuting in the Handball-Bundesliga. His biggest success during his spell in Germany was the EHF City Cup, he achieved in 1998. Ferenc Ilyés (born 20 December 1981) is a retired Hungarian handball player. Career Club Born in Odorheiu Secuiesc into an ethnic Hungarian family, Ilyés started to play handball for his hometown club. He was spotted by the scouts of SC Pick Szeged, and the talented left back signed a contract with the Tisza-side team in 2000. His playing minutes were limited in the early times, so he moved to Makói KC on loan to get more experience. He returned to Szeged as a more mature player and immediately became a regular team member.He played in Szeged until 2007, when he switched to domestic rivals MKB Veszprém KC. With them he has won the EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 2008. After his contract ran out in 2009, he moved to Bundesliga outfit TBV Lemgo on a two-year deal.
