2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Another city that showed interest in hosting the event was Nuremberg, Germany, however Helsinki was in pole position during the whole process. This was the third time that the city had hosted the event, 1971 and 1994 being the other occasions. Eike Onnen (born 3 August 1982 in Hannover) is a German high jumper. He comes from a sporting family with sister Imke also being a high jumper while mother Astrid Fredebold-Onnen a former heptathlete. He finished seventh at the 2007 World Championships. He became German champion in 2005 and 2006, and represents the club LG Hannover. He tied for third with Chris Baker in the 2016 European Athletics Championships. Samson Oni (born 25 June 1981) is a Nigerian-English high jumper. Early in his career Oni won the 2001 AAA Indoor Championships while representing Nigeria. He also competed in the 2007 European Indoor Championships, the 2008 World Indoor Championships, and the 2009 European Indoor Championships without reaching the final. Bohdan Bondarenko
Bohdan Viktorovych Bondarenko ( uk, Богдан Вікторович Бондаренко; born 30 August 1989) is a Ukrainian high jumper. He is the 2013 World champion, 2014 European champion, and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist. Bondarenko uses the Fosbury Flop technique, jumping off his right leg. He is one of the tallest high jumpers competing on the elite Diamond League circuit, standing 1.98 meters (6' 6"). On 14 June 2014, he achieved his personal best jump of 2.42 metres at the 2014 IAAF Diamond League event in New York City. Gianmarco Tamberi
Gianmarco Tamberi (born 1 June 1992) is an Italian high jumper, current Olympic champion (2020 Summer Olympics) and World indoor champion (2016). He won the 2021 Diamond League crown, becoming the first ever Italian to do so, and repeated this in 2022. Career Gianmarco is coached by his father, Marco Tamberi, who held the indoor Italian record in 1983 with a height of 2.28 m. In 2015, Tamberi broke the Italian high jump record twice—first with a jump of 2.34 m in Cologne, and second with a 2.37 m in Eberstadt, where he was second behind Derek Drouin.
