2012 Deauville American Film Festival
The 38th Deauville American Film Festival took place at Deauville, France from August 31 to September 9, 2012. Jeff Nichols's drama film '' Mud'' served as the opening night film. '' Savages'' by Oliver Stone was the closing night film of the festival. The Grand Prix was awarded to ''Beasts of the Southern Wild'' by Benh Zeitlin. Complete lineup for the festival was announced on July 25, 2012, including episodes from Television shows for the Television section at the festival. Fashion designer and filmmaker Agnès B. was given ''Carte blanche'' section to show seven of her favourite American films to the festival audience. The festival paid tribute to William Friedkin, Salma Hayek, Harvey Keitel, Liam Neeson, Melvin Van Peebles, Paula Wagner and John Williams and hosted retrospective of their films. Mud (2012 Film)
''Mud'' is a 2012 American Coming-of-age story, coming-of-age Drama (genre), drama film written and directed by Jeff Nichols. In the film Tye Sheridan and Jacob Lofland portray a pair of teenagers who encounter the eponymous Mud (Matthew McConaughey), a fugitive hiding on a small island, and agree to help him evade his pursuers. Sam Shepard and Reese Witherspoon also star. ''Mud'' competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and was also shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2013.
