The 2012 Cerezo Osaka season is Cerezo Osaka's 3rd consecutive season, 14th season overall in J.League Division 1 and 40th overall in the Japanese top flight. It also includes the 2012 J.League Cup and the 2011 Emperor's Cup. 2012 is Sérgio Soares's first season at Cerezo after Levir Culpi left at the end of last season. Cerezo Osaka
is a Japanese professional football club based in Osaka. The club currently plays in the J1 League, which is the top tier of football in the country. The club's name ''Cerezo'' (Spanish for cherry blossom) is also the flower of the city of Osaka. The official hometowns of the club are Osaka and Sakai. They form a local rivalry with Suita-based Gamba Osaka. History The club, originally called Yanmar Diesel, started in 1957 as the company team of Yanmar and was an original founder ("Original Eight") of the now-disbanded Japan Soccer League (JSL) in 1965. With four Japanese league titles to its credit, it was a mainstay of the JSL Division 1 until 1990 when it was first relegated, and joined the former Japan Football League (JFL) in 1992. In 1993, the club incorporated as Osaka Football Club Co., Ltd. and adopted the name Cerezo after a public contest. In 1994, they won the JFL championship and was promoted to the J1 League in 1995. Yoichiro Kakitani
(born 3 January 1990) is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a forward or an attacking midfielder for Tokushima Vortis. Club career Cerezo Osaka Born in Osaka, Kakitani joined Cerezo Osaka's youth team at the age of 4. In 2006, he signed his first professional contract with Cerezo at 16 – the club record for the youngest player signed to a professional contract. He played his first J-League game on 26 November 2006. He also trained with the Arsenal F.C. and Inter Milan youth teams. Kakitani entered the e-School of Human Sciences, Waseda University in 2008. is a Japanese football player who plays as a goalkeeper for FC Tokushima. Career He was educated at and played for Yosano Municipal Koyo Junior High School and Mineyama High School. Kim Jin-hyeon (; Hanja: 金鎭鉉; ; born 6 July 1987) is a South Korean professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Cerezo Osaka. International career Kim made 3 appearances for South Korea U-20 in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his national team debut on 30 May 2012 in a friendly match against Spain. Kim became the starting goalkeeper for the national team in the 2015 Asian Cup with the exception of the match against Kuwait.
