2012 24 Hours Of Spa
The 2012 Total 24 Hours of Spa was the 65th running of the 24 Hours of Spa. It was the fourth round of the 2012 Blancpain Endurance Series season and was held over the 28 and 29 of July at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. The race was won by Andrea Piccini, Rene Rast and Frank Stippler driving an Audi. Entry List On 4 July, the RACB and SRO Belgium released the provisional entry list. The 24 Hours of Spa is an Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance racing event for cars held annually since 1924 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Stavelot, Belgium. It is currently sponsored by TotalEnergies. History The Spa 24 Hours was conceived by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem just one year after the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans was run. It debuted in 1924 over a circuit on public roads between the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot, under the auspices of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium (RACB). The present circuit was inaugurated in 1979 with only slight variations since then. The Spa 24 Hours was part of the European Touring Car Championship from 1966 to 1973, again in 1976 and from 1982 to 1988 (with the exception of 1987 Spa 24 Hour, 1987 when it was part of the 1987 World Touring Car Championship, inaugural World Touring Car Championship). BMW Z4 (E89)
The BMW Z4 (E89) is the second generation of the BMW Z4 range of two-door roadsters, and was produced from 2009 to 2016. The E89 replaced the E85/E86 Z4 and is the fourth model in the BMW Z Series. The E89 Z4 was the first Z Series model to use a retractable hardtop roof, which meant that there were no longer separate roadster and coupé versions of the car. René Rast
René Rast (born 26 October 1986 in Minden) is a German professional racing driver and the 2017, 2019 and 2020 DTM champion. He previously drove for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler in Formula E from 2019 to 2021 before Audi left the sport at the end of 2021. He claimed overall wins at the 2012 and 2014 24 Hours of Spa, 2014 24 Hours of Nurburgring and a class win at the 2012 24 Hours of Daytona. Career After competing in karting and Formula BMW, Rast won the 2005 ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup and was runner-up at the 2006 Seat León Supercopa Germany. In 2007, he switched to sports car racing, where he won Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in 2008 and 2012, and Porsche Supercup and claimed three championships from 2010 to 2012. Andy Meyrick
Andy Meyrick (born 4 September 1985) is a British racing driver currently competing in the United SportsCar Championship and the Blancpain Endurance Series. Racing career Single seaters Meyrick made his racing debut in the BRSCC Formula Ford 1600 North West championship at Oulton Park. He won the fifth race of his career and went on to win a total of ten races during the season, taking the Pre 90 class championship in a vintage Reynard 84FF. The following season he stepped up to the British Formula Ford Championship, driving for Cliff Dempsey Racing in the Ray GR06 alongside Peter Dempsey. Robert Bell (racing Driver)
Robert "Rob" Bell (born 30 April 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne) is a British professional racing driver. He has competed in such series as the FIA GT Championship, the British GT Championship and Formula Renault V6 Eurocup, and is best known as the winner of the 2016 Blancpain Endurance Series with Shane van Gisbergen and Côme Ledogar. He has also won the Winter Series of Formula Renault UK in both 2001 and 2002. Bell was the Le Mans Series GT2 class champion for Virgo Motorsport in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, and vice-champion for JMW in 2009 and 2011. In 2009 he also finished 7th at the FIA GT Championship GT2 class for CRS Racing, collecting a 2nd place at the 24 Hours of Spa. McLaren MP4-12C
The McLaren MP4-12C, later known simply as the McLaren 12C, is a sports car that was designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It was the first ever production car wholly designed and built by McLaren, and their first production road car produced since the McLaren F1, which ended production in 1998. The car's final design was unveiled in September 2009 and was launched in mid-2011. The MP4-12C uses a carbon fibre composite chassis, and is powered by a longitudinally-mounted McLaren M838T twin-turbocharged V8 engine, generating approximately at 7,500 rpm and around of torque at 5,600 rpm. The car makes use of Formula 1-sourced technologies such as "brake steer", where the inside rear wheel is braking during fast cornering to reduce understeer. Gulf Oil was a major global oil company in operation from 1901 to 1985. Tom Kristensen (racing Driver)
Tom Kristensen (born 7 July 1967) is a Danish former racing driver. He holds the record for the most wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with nine, six of which were consecutive (from 2000 to 2005). In 1997, he won the race with the Joest Racing team, driving a Tom Walkinshaw Racing-designed and Porsche-powered WSC95, after being a late inclusion in the team following Davy Jones' accident that eventually ruled him out of the race. All of his subsequent wins came driving an Audi prototype, except in 2003, when he drove a Bentley prototype. In both 1999 and 2007 Kristensen's team crashed out of comfortable leads in the closing hours of the race. He is considered by many to be the greatest driver ever to have raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. André Lotterer (born 19 November 1981) is a German professional racing driver currently racing for Avalanche Andretti Formula E in the FIA Formula E Championship. He is best known for his success in endurance racing with the works Audi team, including three victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the drivers' title of the FIA World Endurance Championship. He has also competed in the Japanese Super Formula series for over a decade, winning the title in 2011. Phoenix Racing is a motor racing team based at the Nürburgring in Germany. The team competes in series such as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and FIA GT1 World Championship and was the winner of the 2022 24 Hours of Nürburgring with the car #15. Mike Hezemans
Mike Hezemans (born 25 July 1969, in Eindhoven) is a professional racecar driver from the Netherlands. Mike is the son of Toine Hezemans and brother of Loris Hezemans. Mike started in karting in 1981, and won the Dutch National Championship in 1984. In 1989 he finished 2nd in the European Championship Formula A and 3rd in the World Championship Formula A. In 1990 Hezemans started racing cars. He entered the Dutch Touring Car Championship, the premier racing series of The Netherlands. He won the fourth race that he competed in and added 2 more victories later that year. in 1991 he moved to the Porsche Supercup and ADAC GT Cup. In 1994 Mike entered the BPR Global GT Series which ran through 1996. In 1997 this series was replaced by the prestigious FIA GT Championship.
