Newcastle United Jets Football Club, commonly known as Newcastle Jets, is an Australian professional soccer club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. It competes in the country's premier competition, the A-League, under licence from The Australian Professional Leagues (APL). formerly under licence by Football Australia. The club was formed in 2000 when it joined the National Soccer League (NSL) and was one of only three former NSL clubs to join in the formation of the A-League. Newcastle Jets have won one A-League championship, after defeating rivals Central Coast Mariners 1–0 in the 2008 A-League Grand Final. In 2009, Newcastle competed in the AFC Champions League for the first time, reaching the Round of 16. In May 2015, FFA revoked Newcastle's licence after owner Nathan Tinkler placed the club into voluntary administration. Ben Kantarovski
Benjamin Kantarovski ( mk, Бенјамин Кантаровски) (born 20 January 1992) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder. Ben is the older brother of former Newcastle Jets FC player Michael Kantarovski. He holds the current record of A League appearances for the Newcastle Jets. Club career Newcastle Jets Kantarovski was signed to a four-year contract by the Newcastle Jets in January 2008 while attending Lambton High School at only 15 years of age, making him the youngest player in A-League history to sign a full-time A-League contract, and one of the youngest players in world football to do so. Matthew Nash
Matthew Ian Nash (born 3 April 1981) is a former Australian goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach for Sydney FC in the A-League. Club career Nash played for Port Kembla FC in the Illawarra League, before moving to NSW Premier League side APIA Leichhardt Tigers in 2007. After winning the 2007 Johnny Warren Cup, APIA missed out on a finals place, finishing fifth. After trialling with Sydney FC in the 2007 pre-season, Nash was offered a short-term contract for the 2007–08 A-League season as cover for injured reserve keeper Ivan Necevski. On 9 September 2007, he made his A-League debut in place of Clint Bolton who was on international duty. His strong performance impressed, with Nash keeping a clean-sheet. Marko Jesic
Marko Jesic (born 7 August 1989 in Fairfield, New South Wales) is an Australian football player of Serbian descent who plays for Marconi Stallions FC. Club career Jesic grew up on the streets of Bossley Park in Sydney's south west and was promoted to the Newcastle Jets A-League squad after playing in the youth league. Jesic is a graduate from the Australian Institute of Sport. Newcastle United Jets Marko started his football career at AIS. James Virgili
James Robert Virgili (born 8 July 1992) is an Australian retired professional soccer player who last played for Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Newcastle Jets On 4 January 2009, he made his senior debut as a substitute against Wellington Phoenix. This also made him the youngest player in A-League history to make his debut at 16 years and 180 days. Virgili broke into the first team in the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season. Christopher Payne (born 15 September 1990) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for Sydney United 58 in the National Premier Leagues NSW Club career He finished his HSC at Narrabeen Sports High School. Sydney FC Payne played in all of Sydney's three trial matches and scored a double against his former club Manly United at Cromer Park. Jobe Wheelhouse (born 14 April 1985 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for Lambton Jaffas. Club career Wheelhouse was unavailable for the majority of the 2006-07 A-League season and made his return against Perth Glory in Round 1 of the 2007–08 season.
