2011–12 Levante UD Season
The 2011–12 season was the 71st season in Levante's history and their second consecutive season in La Liga. With new manager Juan Ignacio Martínez, the club aimed to stay in the top flight of Spanish football for another season but far surpassed their initial aim and finished 6th, qualifying for European competition in doing so. Levante competed in the 2011–12 La Liga and the 2011–12 Copa del Rey where they entered in the Round of 32. The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. Sergio Martínez Ballesteros (born 4 September 1975) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a central defender. He started and finished his 19-year professional career with Levante, amassing La Liga totals of 387 games and eight goals over 15 seasons. He also represented in the competition Tenerife (four years), Rayo Vallecano, Villarreal (three) and Mallorca (four). Javier 'Javi' Rodríguez Venta (born 13 December 1975) is a Spanish retired professional footballer who played as a right-back. He amassed La Liga totals of 270 matches and two goals over 11 seasons, mainly with Villarreal (eight years).
