2011–12 Athletic Bilbao Season
The 2011–12 season was the 111th season in Athletic Bilbao's history and their 81st consecutive season in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football. It covers a period from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. Athletic Bilbao competed for their ninth La Liga title and participated in the UEFA Europa League, entering in the play-off round due to their sixth-place finish in the 2010–11 La Liga. Athletic Club ( eu, Bilboko Athletic Kluba; es, Athletic Club de Bilbao), commonly known as Athletic Bilbao or just Athletic, is a professional Association football, football club based in the city of Bilbao in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country of Spain. They are known as ''Los Leones'' (The Lions) because their stadium was built near a church called ''San Mamés'', which was named after Saint Mammes of Caesarea, Saint Mammes, an early Christian thrown to the lions by the Roman Empire, Romans. Mammes pacified the lions and was later made a saint. The team plays its home matches at the San Mamés Stadium. Its home colours are red and white-striped shirts with black shorts. Albacete Balompié is a Spanish football team based in Albacete, in the autonomous community of Castile–La Mancha. José Manuel Casado Bizcocho (born 9 August 1986) is a Spanish professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Defender (association football)#Full-back, left-back. Club career Casado was born in Coria del RÃo, Province of Seville. Piti (footballer)
Francisco Medina Luna (born 26 May 1981), known as Piti, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a winger or a forward. His name was mostly associated with Rayo Vallecano where he had three spells, and achieved La Liga totals of 148 games and 29 goals for that club, Zaragoza and Granada. He amassed 164 appearances and 34 goals in the Segunda División for Ciudad de Murcia, Hércules and Rayo, and spent several years of his later career in Cyprus, Greece and India. Alejandro Arribas Garrido (born 1 May 1989) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Liga MX club Juárez as a centre-back. He made 172 appearances in La Liga for Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna, Sevilla and Deportivo, also winning the Europa League with the third of those teams. José MarÃa Movilla Cubero (born 8 February 1975) is a Spanish retired professional footballer who played mainly as a central midfielder. He played 299 La Liga matches in exactly ten seasons, representing mainly Zaragoza and retiring at 39. Ander Iturraspe Derteano (; ; born 8 March 1989) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He spent all but the final season of his career at Athletic Bilbao, appearing in 320 matches across all competitions after making his debut with the first team at the age of 19.
