Football is by far the most popular sport in Paraguay. Paraguay's national team has played at eight FIFA World Cup competitions and has won two Copa América tournaments. Olimpia Asunción is the country's most successful club in domestic and international competitions. Paraguay's football leagues are divided into four divisions. Federico Fernández (footballer)
Federico Fernández (; born 21 February 1989) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Al-Duhail. Fernández began his career at Estudiantes de La Plata, where he reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana and won the Copa Libertadores, before moving to Napoli in 2011. He was used sparingly by the Serie A club, and spent time on loan at Getafe, before joining Swansea City in 2014. Fernández made his full international debut in 2009 and has since earned over 30 international caps, scoring three goals. Estadio Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera
Estadio Ramón "Tahuichi" Aguilera Costas is a multi-purpose stadium in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is used mostly for football matches, on club level by Blooming, Oriente Petrolero, Destroyers, and Royal Pari. The stadium has a capacity of 38,000 people and was opened in 1940. It was also one of the official stadiums for the 1997 Copa America as well as a number of international continental tournaments, such as the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Federico Javier Santander Mereles (born 4 June 1991) is a Paraguayan professional footballer who plays as a forward for Italian club Reggina and the Paraguay national team. Club career Early career Santander started in the youth divisions of Guaraní where he excelled and was part of the under-20 squad that won the international friendly championship held in Valencia, Spain. Lucas Ramón Barrios Cáceres (; born 13 November 1984) is an Argentine-born Paraguayan former footballer. Barrios was known for his effectiveness in the target area. This earned him his nickname ''La Pantera'', which means ''The Panther''. Even though he was born in San Fernando, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Barrios's mother is Paraguayan, which made him eligible to receive Paraguay nationality at birth. The Copa Paz del Chaco (Spanish for ''Chaco Armistice Cup'') is a football international friendly match between the Paraguayan and Bolivia national football teams, played since 1957. History The trophy was instituted jointly by the Paraguayan Football Association and the Bolivian Football Federation. Its name is a tribute to the armistice that the two countries signed in 1935, after the bloody war that claimed since 1932. The dispute has been irregular, the rules state that they must do two regular meetings in each capital. The trophy was at stake ten times, with Paraguay winning 7 times and Bolivia 3 times. Roberto Carlos Silvera Calcerrada (born 30 January 1971) is an Uruguayan football referee. He has been an International FIFA referee since 2003 and officiated several important fixtures since then which include the semifinals of Copa Libertadores in 2007 between Boca Juniors and Cúcuta Deportivo (second leg) and again in 2008 between Boca Juniors and Fluminense (first leg). Resistencia, Chaco
Resistencia () is the capital and largest city of the province of Chaco in north-eastern Argentina. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city proper was 291,720 inhabitants. It is the anchor of a larger metropolitan area, Greater Resistencia, which comprises at least three more municipalities for a total population of 387,340 as of 2010.
