The Third Division Football Tournament for the 2011 season in the Maldives started on October 17, 2011. Tournament format The 41 teams first play a knockout phase. The top 8 teams in the first round advance to the second round. The 8 teams are divided into 2 groups of 4 teams in each group. The top 2 teams from each group play in the semi-final. Third Division Football Tournament
Third Division Football Tournament is the third division of the Maldives Football League System, organized by the Football Association of Maldives. A new structure for the Third Division Football Tournament was introduced for the 2015 season. Structure Changes were brought to the third division league structure 23 December 2014, by the FAM's FIFA normalizing committee. According to the new structure, the third division consists of 9 zones under 2 groups. Joint zone 1—8 includes clubs from all atolls of the Maldives, and zone 9 is played between clubs from Male'. Both zones plays own qualification tournament and the champion clubs will be qualified for the final round, which is also referred as ''Male' round''. The final of a competition is the match or round in which the winner of the entire event is decided. Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Malé
Malé (, ; dv, މާލެ) is the capital and most populous city of the Maldives. With a population of 252,768 and an area of , it is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The city is geographically located at the southern edge of North Malé Atoll ( Kaafu Atoll). The Maldives national football team (Dhivehi: ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭ ގައުމީ ފުޓްބޯލް ޓީމް) represents the Maldives in international football and is controlled by the Football Association of Maldives. István Urbányi
István Urbányi (born 17 April 1967 in Salgótarján) is a Hungarian former football player and coach. Career As a player, he spent most of his career at Bp. Honvéd and Győri ETO as a defender and midfielder. In 1990, he played two games for Hungary After a nearly two decade-long career, in 1999 he also trialled with FK Lofoten in Norway. He was the head coach of Újpest FC from December 2006 to April 2008. In the end of February 2009, he was appointed as the head coach of the national team of Maldives. His first assignment as the coach of the Maldives was the AFC Challenge Cup qualification, where Maldives faced Bhutan, Philippines and Turkmenistan. His contract ran out in 2010 and following the sides could not reach an agreement over an extension, Urbányi left the Maldives.
