2011 South American Championships In Athletics
The 2011 South American Championships in Athletics were the 47th edition of the South American Championships, organised under the supervision of the CONSUDATLE. They were held at the National Center of High Performance Athletics (''Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo'', CeNARD) in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 2 to 5 June 2011. Forty-four track and field events were contested, with the number of contests split evenly between the sexes. A total of 345 athletes participated at the championships. It was the first time since 1967 that the city had hosted the event. Brazil continued its dominance at the continental competition, winning the most medals of the fourteen participating countries (51 in total, 21 of them gold). It also retained both the men's and women's title on points. Colombia was the next most successful nation, taking twelve gold medals and thirty-three overall, while the host nation Argentina came third with five golds and twenty medals altogether. Geiner Alonso Mosquera Becerra (born January 8, 1984, in Chigorodó, Antioquia) is a Colombian sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. He won a gold medal at the 2008 Ibero-American Championships, with a time of 46.63 seconds. Playing career Mosquera represented Colombia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 400 metres. Kléberson Davide (born 20 July 1985) is a Brazilian track and field athlete who specialises in the 800 metres. Born in Conchal, São Paulo, Davide won his first major youth title in the 800 m at the 2002 South American Youth Championships. He reached the semi-finals of the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics. He made his first impression on the senior circuit in 2007: he became the 800 m national champion, took the silver medal at the 2007 Pan American Games, and reached the semis at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. Álex Quiñónez
Álex Leonardo Quiñónez Martínez (11 August 1989 – 22 October 2021) was an Ecuadorian sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Shot to death in October 2021, he was the second runner to be murdered that month, alongside fellow bronze medalist Agnes Tirop. He won the 100 m and 200m at the 2012 Ibero-American Championships in Athletics, with his 20.34s national record in the 200 m qualifying him for the Olympics. He ran a new Ecuadorian national record of 20.28 s in the heats of the 200 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics and qualified himself for the final. He finished seventh in the final. Quiñónez won the bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in the 200 metres event. He qualified to represent Ecuador at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 200m in Tokyo but was provisionally suspended for "whereabouts failures" less than a month before the games began. Andrés Rodríguez (born 27 June 1985) is a Panamanian male track and field sprinter who competes in the 200 metres and 400 metres. He holds personal bests of 21.30 seconds and 47.02 seconds, respectively.
