The Senate is the upper chamber of Nigeria's bicameral legislature, the National Assembly of Nigeria. The National Assembly (popularly referred to as NASS) is the nation's highest legislature, whose power is to make laws, is summarized in chapter one, section four of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution. It consists of 109 senators: the 36 states are each divided in 3 senatorial districts each electing one senator using the first-past-the-post electoral system; the Federal Capital Territory elects only one senator also using first-past-the-post. The President of the Senate is the presiding officer of the Senate, whose chief function is to guide and regulate the proceedings in the Senate. Emmanuel Bwacha CON is a Nigerian politician who was elected to the Senate for the Taraba South Senatorial District of Taraba State, Nigeria, in the 2011 general elections. He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was reelected under the same party in the 2015 general elections. Abubakar Umar Tutare is a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for the Taraba Central Senatorial District of Taraba State, Nigeria in the April 2011 general elections, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. Early political career Tutare was a representative in the Taraba State House of Assembly for two terms. He was appointed commissioner for the Finance, Commerce and Works ministries of the state, and finally Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He was a contender to be PDP candidate for the Taraba Central senate seat in the April 2007 elections, but lost out to Dahiru Bako, who went on to be elected. In June 2010 it was reported that Tutare was being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged misappropriation of state government funds when he was commissioner of finance under governor Jolly Nyame. Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan (16 September 1959 – 7 May 2021), popularly known as Mama Taraba, was a Nigerian lawyer and politician. She was appointed in 2015 to the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari after his election until her resignation in July 2018. She was previously a senator, representing Taraba North senatorial district of Taraba State, Nigeria which she won under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). She later decamped to the main opposition party All Progressive Congress (APC) and became the gubernatorial candidate of the party in Taraba State for the 2015 general elections. She was defeated in the election re-run held on 25 April 2015, but on 7 November 2015 tribunal removed Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku, declared Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress winner of 11 April 2015 poll, this was later reversed by the Appeal and Supreme Courts of Nigeria. The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), formerly known as Action Congress (AC), was a Nigerian political party formed via the merger of a faction of Alliance for Democracy, the Justice Party, the Advance Congress of Democrats, and several other minor political parties in September 2006. The party controlled Lagos.
